i was just reading a post on here about formula and read that you have to discard the unused portion of the container after 30 days. I breastfeed DD but give her one formula bottle a day at daycare. She only goes 3 days a week so I use MAYBE 18 oz lf formula a week tops. I bought one of the BJs sized ones and have literally been using the same canister for like 6 months. Now I feel like a terrible mom. What the hell have I been feeding my kid? Is it harmful to them? Does it really go bad or is it just the company's way of getting you to buy more? It's not clumpy or anything- I just looked at it.

That's exactly why I asked!!
In your case I might buy the RTF bottles since you can store them longer.

I never threw out formula unless it was expired. My daughter survived. I'm sure it's fine.

Re: suppose i should have read the label...
I don't believe it would necessarily harm the baby, BUT there is a reason for the expiration date...like anything else, when it's exposed to air it will eventually break down and change composition. It could lose effectiveness as far as quality of vitamins and proteins. I mean if you think about it, its a form of milk..containing protein/lipids etc...while it's prob not harmful to eat, its certainly not as good at 6 months out as it was freshly opened.
Most people using formula go through it so quickly that its never really a thought, but in your case you're better off buying single packets to use as you go or buying the small cans.

ITA. It may not be harmful, but it may not be as potent and effective either.

does similac make the ready to go formula packets? and if so, do they sell the sensitive one too or just their regular "blend"?!

Similac appears to not have the sensitive formula in packets...but enfamil has their gentlease in packets which is basically the same thing.
