Sunblock Question
We're going to FL on Saturday and plan to be in the pool for most of it....DS is almost 5 months and I bought Baby sunscreen....I also have a uv shirt and hat for him.
The sunscreen is ok to use on him, right? I don't plan on having him bake in the sun but it says something on the label about being 6 months or older....

Ya know that is what I was told by my Ped as well, not to use anything till 6 months so we didn't. Maybe you can ask your dr?

MY ped said no under 6 months...but it was summer when he was 5 mo and I asked my dr if the month really mattered and he told me I could! I guess they don't want new-newborns with it on! He was barely directly in the sun even at the beach bec I had a tent, umbrella, my jogging stroller with large cover, hat, uv shirt, etc! but it was just a precaution for the exposed parts!

My ped (and I) believe that sunblock is better than the alternative and my DS has been wearing it since he was 11 weeks old

I don't know about sunblock but thought I'd give you an additional option. A stroller umbrella, I just got this for DS stroller.

We take a lot of walks outside and this this is SPF 50, supposedly.

my dd dr ( we were just there tues for 5mth check up) said it was ok to use it but dont go crazy with it, she rather her be in the shade but if she has to be in sun use it

I think it depends on the sunblock. If you use a mineral sunblock the chemicals do not absorb into the skin so that would be safe for baby. My little one is 10 weeks and I've used sunblock on him because there are times we have to be outside and don't want him burning. Check out this site for some good info...

well, we took Em, who was born on June 3rd to a 4th of July party....and asked the doctor that very question.
she told us that it's not a GREAT idea, but the damage the sun could do far outweighed not doing the sunscreen....
to 'make up for it'...we got california baby - all natural ingredients, no chemicals... it was expensive, but i felt well worth the price!

I just asked my ped about this last week. My dd is 5 months old.. He said he prefers we wait till the 6 month mark BUT if you do use it just put very little on. We will just wait to use it.
