Summer Must Haves for a Newborn
I just had my second child. My first was born in December, so I didn't deal with the summer when he was so young. I'm nervous about the sun, the bugs, and the heat. Obviously, I'll keep him in the shade was much as possible. However, does anyone have any recommendations to make having a newborn in the summer easier so we can enjoy the outdoors with him?
I've been looking at Sun Protective onesies, Sun Protective blankets, etc., and we have a stroller netting for the bugs. Did other people use these things? Were they helpful? Is there something else I should be getting?

Both my girls are summer babies. No sunscreen until 6 months. I had a pop up uv tent which was nice to lay the baby down in the shade while I played with my older one. A sun hat

We didn't really use any sun protective onesies or blankets or anything. Just regular newborn clothes, muslin receiving blankets, lots of sun hats, and always under an umbrella. No sunscreen until 6 months so it's tough. I didn't have the netting for the stroller and wish I did! We actually used her pack and play at my in-laws beach house and threw a lace curtain over it for a ghetto fabulous mosquito net.

I had a bug net but never used it. Just always stayed in the shade and tried to get inside before it got buggy outside. The basic rock and plays are great to bring in the backyard bc they're nice and breathable. For the beach we used a pop up tent but now we use the sportbrella which is great. The bob is great on the beach too.

You really just want to make sure they aren't overheating. So don't dress them too warmly. My dd was a summer baby and we just kept her in onesies and an aden and anais swaddle when taking walks. My stroller came with a bug net and we used that a lot. You really just want to make sure you keep them in the shade, but I don't think there is a necessity for sun protective onesies or blankets.

Agreed on the not dressing too warmly. My kid is like a furnace! She mostly wore short sleeved onesies and a sun hat. And she still was a sweaty mess!

I'm due any day now with dd#2. I have two pop up canopies for the backyard, sun hats and I got a light weight tula carrier because dd#1 would sweat buckets in her car seat. All dd wore was the light weight rompers and I plan the same for this one. Dd#1 loves being outside so I just need to make sure dd#2 has shade or I have the lightweight muslin blankets I can throw over her.

When my ds was a newborn last summer whenever we were in the yard I had him in his packnplay with the bug netting over it and I had an electric fan set up next to the pack n play to blow air on him, in the shade, of course.

Oh and change diapers often when outside on hot days and use plenty of baby powder and diaper rash cream to protect skin to avoid diaper rash.

I dressed DD in little rompers, had a sun hat and kept her in the shade and cool. My infant seat gets really hot, so be careful of that.

Re: Summer Must Haves for a Newborn
We used a stroller fan for most outings and if we were going to be at someone's house outdoors we had the simple no frills bouncy chairs that we would bring for them to hang out in since they were 1000% cooler then the stroller or being held,

Re: Summer Must Haves for a Newborn
2 of my 3 kids are summer babies and the 3rd is September. I just made sure they had sun hats - I didn't buy anything specifically SPF, I just used whatever looked cute with his bathing suit. I had them in the rash guards with their bathing suit.
If I went to the beach, I used the Tommy Bahama beach cart and I put the rock and play where the beach chairs would go and wear the baby until I got to where I was going. Then I would set up the RNP under the umbrella and that's where he would stay pretty much the whole time. It was nice and shaded and usually even a little breezy. On the boat I would just keep him in his infant seat and under the canvassed area.
I used the bug nets on the stroller and car seat. I also used those Aden and Anais swaddle blankets all the time. They are super light and I would use them outside to protect them additionally from bugs or the sun. Like when I would wear the baby down to the beach, I would cover them with that blanket so they didn't get sunburned on the walk.
Really, I don't think you need anything additional or special. Summer is a great time to have a newborn because you don't really have to limit what you can do as everyone is outside. I had my 2 week old at a huge 4th of July BBQ.

dd was born in july.. just used alot of one piece rompers, onesies, and things like that. I didn't get any sun protective clothing. If we went outside, I just put a light muslin blanket over the stroller
