Sub-Teacher Tells Students Santa Isn't Real!
These were first graders and that's sad for them.
But I guess they will eventually figure it all out... I just don't think it was her place to say anything about this to the class.

If it went down like the way the article was written, then that sub-teacher sounds like an @sshole. What was the point and they are so young.
My son just turned 10 and still believes, I am sure this is his last year. But why tell 6/7 yrs olds that. It's not the end of the world and you can easily convince the kid otherwise. But I would still be p!ssed that I even had to deal with that BS convo.

Sub-Teacher Tells Students Santa Isn't Real!
Even my children (4 and 5) know not to tell other children that Santa isn’t real. They know some children believe he’s real and we shouldn’t spoil it for them.

This is so true because my cousins kids were told early about Santa and they know not to say anything.
My son just refuses to hear anyone anyway at this point. He wrote a letter to Santa that said, "the kids in my class say you aren't real and it's the parents. But I know you are real and don't care what they say". LOL.

She sounds like a little bit of a psycho! Was she just angrily spouting off to this bunch of 6 year olds??

People like this should not be able to work with children. There has to be a better screening process. She kept on going with it which makes it even sadder. Poor kids.

While not illegal, there are just certain topics you shouldn't bring up with 1st graders.... religion, politics, sex, holiday beliefs, etc...
If the teacher has an issue with kids and Santa, they should have taught high school....

This is a disturbed individual who should not be working with children. That was nothing but mean spirited and cruel. If that was my district, I would be up their ass about getting rid of her. I am the last person to think anyone should lose their job, I am always about 2nd chances and rehabilitating the person (minus major offenses of course), but she sounds bitter and I would not want that kind of negativity around my kids.

Same. It's not even so much about Santa- it's about the fact that she would even THINK that is ok. I mean what else will she say next? Will she spew a racist comment? Say something sexual? God only knows what goes on in the mind of a person who thinks it's fine to tell 6 year olds that Santa doesn't exist. What a nut job.

I think this is a huge jump to make from telling kids that Santa isn't real to being a racist. I think this is one of those things that while many think it was a bad choice shouldn't be something that we are ruining someone's life over. I am shocked at that amount of hatred that is being spewed by people over something like this.

I wasn't saying she was a racist because she didn't believe in Santa. I was using it as an example of God knows what else she would say.
An ADULT who would ruin something that kids really really enjoy for no reason- is a disgusting human being IMO. Disgusting. It's just as bad as taking a kid's ice cream away for no reason and throwing it on the ground- just for laughs. And someone like that - God knows what else would come out of her mouth. That is what I meant. What was her reason for doing this? Other than wanting to be a bitchh and make kids sad and upset? Sounds like a real miserable bitchh to me

A bad choice is when you let something slip, which while not the best, it can be forgiven. She purposely told the children Santa doesn't exist, reindeer don't fly, the elf on the shelf is fake and there is no tooth fairy. It was done with malicious intent and she should be fired. There is no way this person has the disposition to be working with children. Who the hell does she think she is shattering the imaginations of these children. I could care less if she believes or doesn't believe but she has no right in making that decision for the kids in that class.

ITA 10000000000%. She should lose her job and be banned from ever working with children in any capacity again. This is one sick, psycho individual. i don't even like kids and would never do this!

I agree. I wouldn't want her teaching and being around my children. The principal said she used 'poor judgement'. I would be concerned with her judgement in other areas also.
Examples of poor judgement! 'Oh kids no it's not a real fire alarm, we'll just sit here instead of leaving the school building' 'I need to step out of the class kids, I won't be gone long be good and I'll be right back' And then just general teaching sounds like she interjects her own beliefs and feelings and I don't think I would be comfortable with that.

Re: Sub-Teacher Tells Students Santa Isn't Real!
I don’t think it has anything to do with Christmas. This is a substitute teacher who went out of her way to upset small children. Why would anyone purposely upset another person, especially a child? I do think there are psychotic tendencies in a person who intends to cause harm or distress to another person.
If she had slipped and alluded to the fact that Santa wasn’t real, fine. But she just kept digging the hole deeper and deeper. I’m sure these children were becoming visibly upset and she just made it worse. Do you think that behavior is ok? Do you think it’s ok to further upset an already upset person for absolutely no reason?

Personally I am not a fan of Christmas at all. But I am a fan of my daughter and the magic she sees in it. So I don't take Christmas seriously.... but my CHILD does. And any asshole who hurts my CHILD- well that is a HUGE problem for me. especially one who works with children for living.

Where does it say these kids were becoming visibly upset in the article? And this is the perspective of one parent and child? How do we know this is true?

I’m no expert on 6 year olds but I would assume that a whole bunch of them being told there’s no Santa, Easter bunny, tooth fairy, etc probably pissed them off. Just a pure guess.
Are you the teacher who did this? You are bizarrely defensive.
