Stupid Question..that I probably should know the answer too...
I am going to start reading some TTC books, so I will know the answers to the questions, but here is this stupid question...
I just went off the pill last month so I am not sure when I should get AF (but I think its soon...thanks 16 year old acne face!) If I was still on the pill, it would be wednesday. But, me and DH are using protection, bc I was on the pill for over 7 years, and I want to give my body time to adjust.
So, me and DH are going on a little vacay this week, to celebrate (a little early) our 1 year anniversary. If I am not ovulating, can I still get pregnant? I really don't want to have to use the protection we have been using, but I don't even know if it is possible to get PG.
I'm sorry this is long, and I'm sorry I don't know about this. I feel like an amateur!

I don't really understand your question. Do you mean if you are not ovulating during vacation can you get pregnant? You need to O, to produce the egg, the get fertilized, to get pregnant.
However, you can BD a few days before you actually O and get pregnant after the egg is released - it takes sperm a while to travel to where the egg is, so it's better to have them there "waiting" so to speak when the egg is released. Sperm can live 2-5 days in optimal conditions, eggs only live 12-24 hours.
If you think you will be Oing soon AFTER your vacation then yes, I'd use protection, because the sperm can stay inside you for a few days and you could end up getting pregnant.

If you are not on the pill anymore, I would use protection because you really dont know where you are in your cycle.... if you're not using OPKs. So if you are not on the pill and are not using protection...there is a possiblity you could get pregnant.

I think I have already o-ed. Can I just buy an OPK and test tomorrow and the next day? Or is it something I have to plan.
And is there like an everything you need to know about TTC book or website?
thanks!

If you think you have already O'd (more than a couple of days ago), then you can't get pregnant because the egg dies after about 24 hours.
If you want to use OPKs to predict ovulation, you need to start on a certain cycle day according to your previous cycles and the directions on the box... for example, if you have a 28 day cycle you will want to start testing on CD 9 or so (I think it depends on the OPK you use). OPKs do not confirm ovulation, they just detect the LH surge that preceeds ovulation. The only way to confirm that you have O'd is to temp - your temp will spike the day after you have O'd.
There is a very good book called Taking Charge Of Your Fertility and there is also a pinned threads at the top of this board that can help you
