Tbh...time. I just follow his lead pretty much. I def don't go to him as soon as he makes a sound cause sometimes he just falls back to sleep without me, but if he continues, then I'd get him. He pretty much goes back to sleep right after eating, so I guess it's not that bad.

Same as PP. Nothing else worked and I didn't want to do CIO. He STTN on his own at 8.5 months. I was going to do the sleep shuffle method by Kim West but didn't have to because one night he just decided he was ready.

Just curious, what's the shuffle method?

White noise machine and a sleep sack. She needed to feel enclosed but not swaddled. And both of these things I introduced at 5mos after she moved from my bedroom to her crib.

Re: Sttn without CIO
Both of my kids were STTN at just a few weeks old and I NEVER had to CIO with either of them. I just followed their cues and when I saw a pattern develop with their eating and sleeping I ran with it and started to create routines around those patterns. At 6 weeks they were STTN from about 9:30-10 to 8-8:30am. Around 8 weeks they switched to 7:30-8pm to about 7:30-8am. As soon as they STTN without needing a bottle that was the LAST time I gave them one.............even if they happened to have a random night where they woke up.
ETA - DD was in her own crib as 12 weeks, DS about 6-7 wks old. Both had sound machines in their rooms and used a sleep sack.

Re: Sttn without CIO
My first sttn at 11 weeks on his own. I didn't do anything.
With my second, we did CIO around 6 months because she just wasn't going to do it on her own. It was very easy and quick!

This except he was in the sleep swaddle conbo at around 3/4 months - but in his own room since 3 weeks or 4 weeks. He has been STTN since about 3ish months. He still will have his nights, when he's teething or sick (he's 14 months), but he sleeps a solid 12 hours a night. But my DS is the quintessential sucker first baby....

Re: Sttn without CIO
My DS is 5 months and he slowly slept through the night. He was up every 3 hours from birth to 2 months old, then from 2 to 3 he was up only once a night and then STTN the night by 3 months.
We set a pattern starting around 8 weeks, stuck to it and he fell right into it. We take him a bath around 6:30-7, he has a bottle, we read him a story and I put him to bed after that. He is usually in bed by 7:30 and he falls asleep on his own within 20 min. Sometimes he has trouble and I go in and he holds my hand to relax. I so far haven't had to pick him up to get him to sleep since we started the pattern.

CIO was the only way we got DS to STTN. He is now 20 months and in full out sleep regression mode with a cold. I have literally not slept well in over 2 years!

Are you actually able to get any sleep with them in the bed? My DS will only sleep on my belly the few times I let him sleep in our bed and I find it so uncomfortable to sleep on my back. Plus, he is all over the place.

DD was STTN at 10 weeks old without CIO. No method used but we did have her sleeping in our room in a bassinet. Not sure if that helped.

I'm not going to lie - some nights were rough. We would all be tossing and turning trying to find a comfortable spot. However, we were in a Queen size bed. Once we got a king size bed it made a world of difference.
DS was like your DS - always had to be ON me one way or another. I just went with it, he eventually would move into another position.
I think you get use to being kicked and prodded all night long because we eventually stopped waking up from it all. I know a lot people don't like having their kids in their bed, but we love it. I think DH & I are now the ones who don't want them out of our bed

We've been co sleeping but the bed is too small and she's kicking and waking up every hour or so probably because I disturb her. I think she needs her own sleep space.

Swaddling (can't say enough about the Woombie! They have a convertible one so you can have baby's arms out but their body still swaddled) and white noise worked wonders for all of our 3 kids. They STTN at 3 weeks, 5 weeks, and 2.5 weeks respectively. I highly recommend Happiest Baby on the Block by Dr. Harvey Karp. That really helped us. We used his white noise CD too.

Nothing. 1st-6 weeks 2nd-10 weeks The 2nd I had more problems as he got older and had to do things for him to go to bed (bringing him back to bed for a few nights without speaking and just walking away) but it worked.

Yes, the only way i was ever able to get sleep was when we stopped trying to get the kids to sleep on their own. DD can sleep on her own now most of the time, although I still sleep with her occasionally. DS is in our bed and somehow it works. I was too tired of getting up in the night and putting them back to sleep. As soon as they had either me or DH they would sleep just great.
