STRESSED about closing

We're closing on our house in NC on Friday, so today's the day we're supposed to get the big bank check. We're literally about $50 short. DH and I got into a HUGE fight last night, because we would have JUST scraped by, except that I noticed that he had just gotten gas. So, figuring the damage wouldn't be so great, I asked him how much he put in...to which he replies...

...$50. HE FILLED UP. I was so ****** I wanted to slap him!!! We're getting on a plane TOMORROW and he filled up his tank, when he could have gotten by on $10.

So, needless to say, I'm flipping out because I need a check for about $40 more than we have...AND the bank charges us $10 for bank checks.

Take a deep breath Beth! I am sure he didn't even realize it! This is a HUGE step for the both of you and I have no doubt that it's stressful.

Re: STRESSED about closing

It will all work out! I closed on my house 2 days before my wedding and I have NO clue as to how we paid closing costs and paid for our wedding at the same time!!! I'm sure that a good friend or family can lend you the $50.

A year from now you'll be laughing at how you got through all of this!

Re: STRESSED about closing

Do you have an overdraft you can pull cash from?

Or a change jar? You are bound to have $50 there!!

I'm sure it will work out.

Re: STRESSED about closing

Unfortunately, we've exhausted all of our options during this closing process. The change jar has been raided, money has been borrowed from family members. We're in a particularly bad spot because we just had to pay our rent YESTERDAY, which is a full paycheck from DH. So that leaves us with no money leftover.

DH said he can borrow from a friend at work...I'm just amazed at how men think sometimes Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: STRESSED about closing

I would normally NOT recommend this, but what about a credit card cash advance?

I agree... that might be your only option... what if you have to pay something extra at the closing you weren't expecting?

I normally wouldn't suggest this either- but have you gotten any of the balance transfer checks? you can write it out to your self and deposit it

I seriously suggest getting over draft on your checking account- it's the best thing ever- it has saved me before!

Re: STRESSED about closing

Most people have a rough estimate of what their closing costs are going to be, so to me, coming 50 shy of not having enough, sounds like a bit of a problem.

Do you only have 1 bank account. Sellers can accept 2 bank checks.

I agree as well. I know closing costs are different in NC but, we had to pay more than what our lawyer told us to have our bank checks made out for.

I agree with Meaghan and say take a small cash advance on your credit card.

Breath and everything will work out!

Same as us - we had to pay a couple hundred over what was estimated.

Be prepared with extra money! Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it and can't go through with the closing.

Re: STRESSED about closing

Ok, late update...DH had to borrow some cash from his mom (which I HATE because other than that, we got all the money ourselves...it's a pride thing!), and we're on our way to the bank to get the BIG check right now!!!

Have a great weekend...we're off to NC! Chat Icon
