Strange nausea remedy - Does it work?

I'm 8 weeks pregnant today and completely miserable due to nausea around the clock. Some days are better than others but nothing is bringing relief.

I've been eating constantly, that's the only thing that seems to give a small dose of relief but I'm gaining weight way too fast. The other thing that's sort of helping are the preggy pop drops. But I'm getting sick of the sour flavors.

I had my first doctor's appointment earlier this week and gave me a strange combo of pills to try. He said to take 25 mg of Vitamin B6 three times a day and Unisom (sleep aid) twice a day.

I was unsure how much Unisom to take. One does is two tablets. So far I've taken one dose of each. I thought I had some mild relief but I'm even more exhausted than usual from the sleep medication. I guess it's the lesser of two evils.

Has anyone had success with this strange remedy?

I have never heard of taking unisom but my OB recommends B6 for nausea.

Re: Strange nausea remedy - Does it work?

I just googled and it seems it is a common combo, at least on babycenter.com. Seems each woman is taking a different amount and at various times of the day. One encouraging post said it takes a day or two to build up in your system to get the best results. I'll keep trying it.

My doc gave me this vitamin with B6 and ginger in it, but the pills were too large for me to swallow. I ended up on Zofran for a couple weeks.
Never heard of taking Unisom.

My dr told me b6 and ginger. Would take the unisom at night to sleep. Could not imagine taking it 2x a day. I would not be able to function.

I took unisom. You can only take it at night so it didn't really help me since I was sick all day

I did it for a little before I had to go on Reglan, and it worked okay for me. It didn't stop the nausea completely, but it did allow me to vomit less.

It is a common combo, and it mimics some Canadian MS drug that is now available in the US.

Not strange. I've definitely heard of it before. Not 25mg of B6 but 50mg but same thing. Also Unisom at night only since it is a sleep aid.

Re: Strange nausea remedy - Does it work?

I just wanted to add that I'm on day 2 and it is helping. A lot! I'm drowsy as anything since I'm taking the Unisom in the morning and night in addition to the B6 3xs a day but I'll take that over nausea. I'm hoping what I've read else where is true that after a while I won't be as tired.

Feel well ladies!

Do you have to take the unisom in the morning? I was told only at night.

Re: Strange nausea remedy - Does it work?

My doctor said twice a day for the unisom. I was under the impression it was the combo of the drugs that made the nausea go away. Maybe I could try it just at night. But for now, it's working so I'm happy with that.

There's nothing strange here. It's proven to work. I only recommend unisom at night if you want to be able to function like a human being. Lol

There's a new drug on the market that's essentially the same combo.

Unisom works very well for me when I am nauseous! I also take Benadryl for nausea, which is pretty much the same thing!

Strange nausea remedy - Does it work?

I did this for the first 16 weeks of pregnancy - 25mg of B6 and 1/2 unisom before bed. Worked for the whole next day for me. Saved my life, lol.

Re: Strange nausea remedy - Does it work?

Today was day 4 and I felt fantastic! Like my old self again. I skipped the unisom this morning just to test it and I went all day and felt great. I took it tonight and hopefully this routine will work out. Taking the unisom in the day was just not working.

One good thing for you ladies...I read in a few pregnancy books that stronger/more nausea has been shown to have a healthier/smarter baby.

so thats a good thing!

My OB recommended the same thing. I would take the unisom at bed time (but I also had most of my nausea at night time). I just took one pill.
