Strange insurance question
Dr. B doesn't take my insurance anymore.
Let's say I wanted to do an IVF cycle with him... IVF is not covered by my insurance anyway, so would it matter if I used him?
Would he be able to prescribe covered medications for me?

Re: Strange insurance question
medication coverage is usually different from IVF coverage. i believe the medication coverage has nothing to do with the prescribing doctor, and more to do with what your medication plan covers. if thats the case doing IVF with dr. B should be no different for you than doing it with a covered doctor - unless a covered doctor is able to get your monitoring appointments covered within your plan (ie. by filing them under a code for something other than infertility/IVF). then you would just have to pay for the actual IVF ER and ET costs.

Re: Strange insurance question
I don't know much about the ins and outs of IVF, but what FW said sounds right about the meds. I think if your insurance covers the meds, it wouldn't matter who is writing the script.
Maybe someone at Dr. B's office knows more?

Re: Strange insurance question
Meds should be covered differently. That being said, not every visit to my RE gets charged against my IF coverage (otherwise I would have capped out loooooong ago). I would take that into consideration.
