Re: steakhouse restaurant?
I think a lot of people recommend charlie browns steakhouse (maybe that's not the right name)--- it's by island 16. I haven't been there yet but I'm looking for a reason to go... we live over an hour east of there so maybe next time we head that way...

We just went to the Capital Grille for our anniversary. I see they have one in Manhatten (we live in CO). It was phenomenal. It's along the lines of Mortons or Ruth Chris.

Darden Inc just bought this company and now all I ihear about it from Friends and Family around the country is how great it is. Everyone is pushing me to go and check it out. From what people in my circle tell me is that it is top notch!

Have I mentioned Tellers? Tellers is great!
You might want to try Tellers...
BTW, Charlie Browns is good but I'm not sure if it's the kind of place you want to go for a special occasion. It's more of an everyday type thing.

Charlie Brown's is a chain restaurant, like a Boulder Creek. I woudn't recommend it.
Tellers in Islip is my favorite steakhouse on Long Island!

Re: steakhouse restaurant?
21 Main is out of this world. It will cost you about 200 for a full meal for 2 people from soup to nuts - but it is completely and TOTALLY worth it. It is in Sayville on Main Street. The ambience is warm and the food is outstanding. I used to be a Teller's devotee - and I still think their food is way above average - but 21 Main just blows them away.
I have also been to Capital Grille (but in Vegas, not NY) and they were fantastic too. They had a Kona coffee rubbed steak that was wonderful. The prices were also very steep.
Charlie Brown's is a chain restaurant and there is one in Commack (I think) and definitely on in Holbrook by the movie theatre. It has decent food and the prices are not in the same stratosphere as the ones mentioned above - so if you aren't looking to spend a fortune it may be a good choice for you.
And my favorite if I am willing to leave my little haven of Suffolk? Peter Luger in Brooklyn. Just the perfect steak. But if you like it well done - don't go there cause they won't do it.

My absolute favorite steakhouse is Old Homestead in NYC.
I just ate at the Atlantic City location and the food was delicious!!!!
Would you happen to know if the NYC location carries the Mac & Cheese??? I didn't see it on their online menu.

I also second Abel Conklins and The Clubhouse!
(I don't really consider Prime a steakhouse and I've never been to Pace's.)

It is the BEST steak house I've ever been too. MUCH better than Ruth Chris. It is very $$$$ though...

I totally agree! We used to live around the corner and went there quite a bit!
We are big steakhouse people and like this place the best. I feel like you get a great steak, the wine list is HUGE and the atmosphere is really nice and romantic.
I feel (and I know others don't agree ) that Peter Lugers is like a barn - they cram you in. I have been to both and neither did anything for me. At the one in Great Neck the waiter kept bumping into my chair all night
We also love Keane's Steakhouse in the city - not too far from the Garden and the food is GREAT!
ETA: Peter Lugers only takes cash or their own credit card

Re: steakhouse restaurant?
Peter Luger's is by far the best - but as others have said
parking is a b*tch they only take cash and it's cramped
soooo worth it though
Uncle Jack's is incredible as well

Re: steakhouse restaurant?
My fave is Bryant & Cooper in Roslyn. Ruth's Chris is also good.
Wasn't crazy about Peter Luger's in Great Neck. The steak was realy good, but the waiter gave me a 15 minute lecture on how I was "ruining" the meat when I didn't order it rare. Why ask if you don't want to serve it any other way? I was totally annoyed all night.
