SPR....trying to minimize your house!
My friend takes a garbage bag, goes through the house and throws stuff out because his spouse holds onto everything...stuff that hasn't been used in 6mon-1yr. Anyone do something like this? I might start b/c DH keeps everything!

No but that's a great idea! I'll be doing that soon for our move. Same goes for my closet!! I tend to hold onto things "just in case" and it leads to a TON of clutter.

All.the.time! My husband thinks I have the polar opposite of hoarding - Im a compulsive thrower outer.

No but you might want to check out the fly lady. I do try to donate or give things I think my friends or family could use. I don't really like to throw usable stuff away. I would rather recycle it. I am not a granola crunchy kind of person but it does make me feel bad to just throw good stuff out.

I used to do this and this is what it would lead to:
Ok don't forgot to take Johnny the books we're getting rid of
DH...forgets for a week, the books are still sitting at home...
I tell DH you better get those books out of here and give them to Johnny at work
DH: Oh Johnny's on vaca now this week, it'll have to wait
repeat. for everything!
I can't take it anymore, I'm gonna just start to throw $hit out!

YES.... Hubby keeps everything!!! Especially newspapers and junk mail... I don't have an empty spot on any surface in my apt.. It is horrible. I tell him to clean up all the time or I will.. I WILL throw out everything... If it is sitting in a pile for longer then 2 week, then it must not be important.. Once a month I clean up.. I should do it more often, but I don't have the time for it...

I don't clean out nearly enough, but when I do, I always donate, freecycle, or list as free on craigslist. I just don't believe in throwing away something that someone else could use.

I have a box in my garage earmarked for donations. Once to twice a month I arrange a pickup through Vietnam Vets of America. They come to my house. Books go to the library. Baby stuff has gone to friends. It has taken a while and I am not done but we see a huge difference in our house, a little at a time. It helps to make it a routine.

Yep, all ready for my 2nd annual fall cleaning night! DH goes away to the race track and I have DD sleep at my mothers (My friends think I should be out partying but instead I clean, I am nuts). I try to go through every room and clean, organize, and throw out anything anyone hasn't used in awhile.
