Spring hill nursery
Anyone ever order plants from them? I got a catalog yesterday, they seem to be well priced. Any info on them?

Re: Spring hill nursery
the plants are always very small. I have ordered from them many times & I've been 90% happy. Stuff you buy this year will take at least 2 years to look anything like the pics in the catalog. Some of the first stuff I ordered from them 7 years ago is now huge & beautiful though.
The Peconic River Herb Farm in Calverton has large, beautiful, healthy plants at fair prices. I get most of my plants there now.

Re: Spring hill nursery
I ordered the "Three Seasons of Beauty" pre-planned garden from them last year and LOVED it. I am not a gardener in the least, but our front yard looked gorgeous last year - the mums were so big & beautiful that I had a few neighbors asking me where I got them. My brother also ordered the same garden & another one (I can't remember which) & his came in lovely too. I'd definitely recommend them - I'll be ordering some things for the backyard this year.
ETA: This is a pic from Halloween, so the rest of the garden had already stopped blooming, although I think I see a few Black-eyed Susan's in the back. I had a smaller space than the garden was meant for & the big Rhododendron in the middle so I planted some of the plants elsewhere, but you can get an idea of how nice the mums were...there are only 2 red ones there.

This is what I want to order, dh thinks im nuts because "who is going to maintain it" is it hard to keep up with. I would def have to put some plants elsewhere as my front flower area isnt that wide, more in length.

Re: Spring hill nursery
I ordered the 3 seasons of beauty garden & the ornamental grass garden last year. Both didn't do so well, except for the mums (which were gorgeous!) .... I am hoping this year it 'takes' and everything starts to grow in more. It had some growth, but not a lot and definitely not a lot of blooming. I added petunia's and begonia's to fill it out last year - I am hoping this year I won't have to...

Re: Spring hill nursery
i ordered from them - everything is TINY as mentioned and i hope in a year or two things will start looking better (bigger) planted in the fall.
I also just ordered lemon trees (inside) and two peonies so we shall see what happens with them.

Re: Spring hill nursery
i've ordered from them too. yes, plants are young/small. but, mine have done very well! I had one that didn't do well and I called them...they sent me a new one for free. if you can wait for them to grow it can be worth it.

After planting I honestly didn't do much to maintain them. We have IG sprinklers in the flower beds so they were automatically watered 2x a day and once a week we would use a watering can w/some Miracle Grow plant food in it...that's it. There was nothing to really prune or anything so I didn't do anything for the winter. I'm hoping it made it through...I guess we shall see
ETA: I should point out that while my brother's did ok last year it didn't thrive as much as mine did. His garden is in the backyard & gets a lot less sun & way more shade than mine does. Ours gets full-on sun for the entire afternoon so that might have helped (our house faces West & we don't have any trees to give it shade). Like some pp's mentioned, it can take a few years for the plants to reach their full potential so he was ok w/that. I think that my garden may have done so well because of the sun...
