SPR... wanted an SLR...Looking for advice
I want either the D40 or D60.. but both are very pricey.. what do you think about buying a factory sample... meaning the ones that are on display at stores... good or bad idea?

Make sure the lens is up to factory specs i.e focusing correctly, no dust, damge etc. Also make sure it has a warranty just in case. 200.00 savings is a good enough reason to consider.

Make sure it's also NOT an import. They usually have warranty issues with import.... aka... no warranty with the manufacturer.
ETA: if you can wait, buy it during the Holidays. They have great deals then!

I agree with Sophie.
I have a Canon Rebel, it is comprable to the SLRs you mentioned, my dad and DH got it for me for Christmas with the body, the 18-55 lens and a 75-300 lens as a package for $699
