Spotting for 2+ weeks
Ok here's the story...sorry if its TMI. I had AF fairly normally (maybe a little lighter than usual) and about a week later I started spotting. This was before DH and I BDed, so I know its not from that. I've NEVER had spotting before so this is completely strange to me. The spotting comes and goes, and is anywhere from brown to light red. I notice it mostly on the toilet paper (along with solid pieces) and sometimes its enough to use a pantyliner. I woke up in the middle of the night once and I thought AF had arrived so I used a tampon. The next two days, there was nothing, but then again a few days later the spotting came back.
I called the Dr and went in for an "emergency visit" but it was also time for my yearly pap anyway. She did a pregnancy test and it was negative and she did a quick exam and said that everything is normal and not to worry. I had a sonogram done about 3 months ago and that was normal as well. She said its possible that I had a chemical pregnancy, but the timing didn't necessarily work.
Now its about a week later and I'm still spotting and I have light cramping. Knowing I saw the Dr makes me feel better, but I'd still like some advice about whats going on. Could it be a miscarriage from a chemical pregnancy and its just taking a while to exit? Has anyone experience this before? I'm thinking of calling the Dr again tomorrow to followup.

Usually with a chemical pregnancy you will just get a normal period, possibly a few days late. It would not cause you to bleed for 2 weeks.
I think I'd call the dr again and see what she says. I've never heard of bleeding for so long. Are you just coming off of bcps or something?

Spotting for 2+ weeks
I've been off bcps for almost a year now and nothing else has changed regarding meds or anything. Stress is probably a factor, but who isn't stressed while TTC?? I don't think I'm overly stressed that it would cause this. Thanks, I'm calling the doctor tomorrow!

I have never had a cyst. I had a sonogram done 3 months ago, would that have picked up a cyst if I had one?

Re: Spotting for 2+ weeks
It definitely could be a cyst. Nothing to worry about. I had one and since I was young (17) and definitely not TTC they put me on the pill to stop the bleeding. If you call your doctor and explain over the phone that you are still bleeding she may send you for a follow up sono with an internal to check for excess blood and tissue which would mean a burst cyst. I would call and ask, you wouldn't have to go back to the doctor unless she saw something bad.

No, I didn't have a sono at the most recent visit. I called yesterday and she said that the cyst is unlikely. She said that all of my test results have been normal but since I'm spotting for so long she wants me to come in for a biopsy.

Re: Spotting for 2+ weeks
I had this same problem a few months ago and, like you, I was due for my annual anyway. They did a preg test (neg) and a sonogram. Everything checked out fine. She said that sometimes women just deal with stress in odd ways and that as long as it wasn't a recurring issue, not to worry about it.

Figured I would do an update on this post. I went to the dr and they did a bunch of tests and everything turned out normal (yay!) Apparently I had an inflammation in my uterus. They put me on antibiotic for 10 days, and the spotting finally stopped. Obviously something was going on up there! I'm glad that is finally over and we can continue ttc!
