Spotting at 5 weeks

Hi everyone!
I'm more of a lurker than a poster but I have a question and I'm hoping you knowledgable ladies can offer some ressurance or blunt info (or both)

Sorry it's so long:

I found out I was pregnant last week. If my calculations are correct I am currently 5 weeks (last period was on 1/13/11)

(TMI warning)Yesterday I noticed brown blood in my underwear (very minimal) and the rest appeared only when I wiped. It stopped and now I noticed a smaller amount today.

I called my doctor and have an appointment Tues. She told me that I shouldn't worry because even if it is worse case (miscarriage) there is nothing she can do to prevent this so I should relax, drink water and try not to stress.

I have a DS and this never happened so I am worried.
Thanks for reading

Re: Spotting at 5 weeks

I spotted exactly at 5 weeks also. It lasted a little over a week (if i remember) and I did go to the Doctor right away. They said it was normal and everything looked fine but I was a nervous wreck. At 5 weeks all they can see is a sac though so it's hard to really do anything. I would see your doctor.

I'm 9 weeks and last Sunday started having brown spotting. I went to the doc today and he said that's perfectly normal.

Re: Spotting at 5 weeks

I had brown discharge at 5 weeks and called my RE (fertility doctor) in a panic. She told me that it's totally normal to have a little spotting at this time, as the embryo is burrowing itself deeper into the lining. It's actually a second round of implantation bleeding.

If you're not having red blood or cramps, just try to relax, drink a lot of water, go to the bathroom every time you need to, and wait for your next appointment. Good luck!

Re: Spotting at 5 weeks

i had the same thing happen around 7 and 15 weeks. Brown blood is old blood and as long as it's not red and accompanied by cramping, then I wouldn't worry yourself. I'm almost 30 weeks now. I know it's easier said than done but just try to relax...it's all out of your control, but you can drink lots of water and take it easy the next couple of days Chat Icon

Re: Spotting at 5 weeks

ok, so brown blood sounds ok but what about BLOOD RED?! I am 5 weeks prego and this morn i work up and wiped and its blood red. I did read that after sex you could spot but i had sex the previous morning and it isnt til now that it showed up.

I know i should call my Dr. but as stated, they wont be able to see much of anything.

The spotting has ceased at the moment, but the mild period cramp in lower abdominal continues. Ive had this cramp ever since i became pregnant. I would like to assume its growing pains?!

Im a first timer and absolutly scared of everything. I am the type of person who is always well prepared and full research things and to have a child is somethign you can't fully prepare for and it scares me. But im ok with that, I just want myself and all of you to have healthy babies Chat Icon Chat Icon

I had the same thing happen to me at almost the exact same time in my pregnancy. All was fine and my son is now almost 3!! From everything I have heard, brown blood is less concerning b/c it is considered old blood. Just take it easy and try to not stress. I am sure you will feel much better about the situation once you get to your doctor's appt.
