Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
(ETA: Spinoff to my other post about NB clothes)
Ok, so a lot of you said NB don't wear onesees until their BB falls off. So what are they wearing?
Maybe I am confused of what a onsee is?

That's crap. DS wore oneies right away. They aren't skin tight so they don't hurt their belly buttons.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
I have onesies and gowns for the baby to wear....
I personally love the gowns cuz it's easy access to their diapers, and they are pretty much covered from neck to toes!

My is two weeks and has worn onesies since she left the hospital. It didn't affect her belly button at all.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
The side snap shirts did ride up some but so did the gowns. I actually didn't like the gowns for that reason....although they are super convenient for changing diapers. It's also really hot in my apt so I usually leave DD with just a onesie and socks...before her umblicial cord fell off it was the side snap shirts and socks. I don't use the side snap shirts anymore now though.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
DD only wore those side snap t-shirts in the hospital. She was in onsees or footies as soon as she came home (and at 2 months that is what she wears 99% of the time).

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
The onsees were a lifesaver. Shirts ride up, and newborns dont' have any body control, so you'd constantly be pulling them down. The gowns were great whent he baby was a little older. But at first, they ride up a lot. For pajamas, we put her mostly in feetie pajamas at the beginning. the zipper ones were the best.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really think these and the onesies with the belly button hole are a gimmick.
Regular ole onesies are FINE.

ITA! My son wore onesies and the gowns and he was fine...they arent skin tight and the belly button is partially dry anyway.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
I am in the minority here. The onesies did irritate his belly button. My DS's belly button fell off very early but there was still a small piece inside. It bled at lot at first and then again when the other piece came off. The ped. said that the belly button can get more irritated if the baby was under the bili lights. We preferred the side snap shirts until he was healed. As for the gowns, I love the idea but got we hardly use them because DS has reflux and needs to be kept upright for a bit after eating. So, we put him into the swing or bouncy and with a gown, he can't be strapped in. If you get gowns, try to find the ones that can be converted to pants. I still preferred the stretchies with the feeties attached so I do not have to deal with socks.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
We put her in snap side shirts for the first week or so and pants that we rolled the waistline down so that the bellybutton was mostly exposed. You really just don't want anything irritating the area and you don't want anything getting in there until it has healed. If it gets infected it could pose quite a problem. That doesn't mean that onesies will cause an infection but it increases the likelihood of one occurring.
I think we had her wearing onesies by the time she was about 2 weeks old.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
I put DD in the side snap shirts until her umbilical cord fell off. In our case, the onesies ARE snug and would have been rubbing against her belly button, so she wore the snapshirts and I dressed her solely in feetie pajamas with the snaps and stretchies until it fell off. After it fell off I put her in shirts and pants and other outfits.
Now I still put her in snapshirts under gowns at night when we go to sleep - it makes changing her diaper at 3am a lot easier. Especially because I'm doing it in the dark.

I completely agree. Our is always very warm (takes after me) so we keep her in onesies most of the time. I don't think it affected her belly button at all.

Re: Spinoff: What do Newborns Wear
Who said no onsies b/c of their umbilical cord??? ok, that is what they should only be wearing. Shouldn't wear 2 peice outfits until it falls off b/c it rubs and irritates the umbi.
They can wear onsies, one peice sleepers. It will only be for a week (until the umbilical cord falls off).
Don't worry....Get what you want.
