Spinoff: Was your name ever in the paper?

Other than your wedding announcement, were you ever in the newspaper?

I was in a few times in high school for activities, honors stuff.

I was in the Long Islander a few times. When I was nine, I put a note in a bottle and threw it into Northport Harbor. It was found in the UK months later by someone who lived in Manchester, England. When I was about 12, I was in a Rubix cube contest and came in third place...some little 9 year old beat me.

Yes, I have been in a few times for ballet-related things. When I used to be in a local ballet company we performed the Nutcracker at Hoftsra every year and I did get a nice mention or two for some of my performances. They've even run photos of me! But not in years since!

Yes, a bunch of times. My name was in there for winning a music scholarship, a music comeptition, something for excellence in performance in college, my wedding announcement, and when my neighbor's house exploded

Yes, two days after my wedding, Newsday did a story on us. It was in the main section like the 4th or 5th page. Pretty exciting!

Yes in the Wall Street Journal for a work related project. I was on the front page of the WSJ because they did an article on small businesses effected by 9/11, a year after the attacks. I co-managed the project to help the small businesses retain their low-waged employees so they would not lay them off or have to close their doors forever. I was embarrassed by the whole thing because I wanted to focus to be on the businesses and what they needed, not on me. However the WSJ reporter told me that since I was so emotionally connected to the project, it made a great story on top of the story about the small businesses in and around ground zero. It ended up being a good thing because that article helped us to get more grant & loan money to help more small businesses and to save jobs in lower manhattan.

I was so proud to shine a little light on such a dark and dismal situation. IMO, If a lot of these businesses closed forever the economy of Lower Manhattan would have been lost for years.

When I was in HS, I was in it for being a semi-finalist on the Spanish Spelling Bee.

Yep, when I won a contest to meet 'N Sync

I was in the Smithtown News.

When I was in 8th grade I was also in the New York Daily News for an article on girls in the internet... there were 2 huge pictures of me I used to have my own website and penpal service.

Oh, and I was in the Boston Globe for the same thing.

Yes, when I graduated from high school... they announced my scholarships and honors received.

And I was in a national publication for Verizon employees profiling children of employees who won company sponsored college scholarships.

when i graduated h.s., my parents put my pic in the local paper. about 6 yrs ago i was in one of the soap opera magazines

Sure, I was in the paper for basketball scores while I was in HS.

Also, in May 2003, my company decided to put my name and picture, along with an announcement that I had joined the company, in the local Oyster Bay paper. How embarrassing!

Twice, when I wrote into the Daily News both times....in the "voice of the ppl" section...
one time for 9/11
one time for the A train

I was in the Merrick Life a dozen or so times throughout elementary school due to Orchestra related stuff (I played the violin).

I was in a fatal car crash in 1990 and unfortunately that made the paper ]

An editiorial I wrote for Suffolk Life was published back in 2004.

HS Graduation, being interviewed, my name and pic for being one of the 1st 10 kids to enroll in UAU (sports program) at my old jr high. OH and the daily news opinion pages

A few times.
The first time was when my sister and I were very young we went to a fair, and the newspaper published a pic of us with a man on stilts.
Next, I was in first grade and me and 3 other kids had a pic in the paper holding up the books we made.
Then in high school I was in for sports (lacrosse, winter track, cross-country) often.

Yes - I did a Gallup poll once and they quoted me in the NY Times.

I used to be in the paper for my basketball games in High school for most scored points, etc. They put the players stats in there.

Once- because I published some stories in a compilation my English Professor published...( Newsday)

and then in a few newspapers after we had our house burn down in 98'

and then once again in Newsday...me and my mom had a sitting with John Edwards who was not famous at all then..this was like about 14 years ago maybe? And Newsday was doing a story on him, asked if they could be in the room with us...
