Spinoff to my post- foods for 9-12 month old...IM CONFUSED
Ok i reading the replies that you all wrote regarding what you are giving DC for bfast, lunch and dinner and i am simply confused. How in the worl dis your DC eating these things? Cheese sandwiches?? My DS has 2 little teeth. How the heck are your kids not choking to death? Im flipping PETRIFIED of this stuff. When you all say fruit- do you mean pureed? I feel like when i do give him non pureed fruit, he barely gets enough to fill up bc it takes forever to eat. How is he supposed to get full?
Im really lost and feeling EXTREMELY overwhelmed. I cant give him what we eat for dinner bc #1- he eats at 5:00 bc he goes to bed by 6ish and #2- bc i dont eat meat and i dont want him to NOT eat meat so.....
Ugh please help. Im really frustrated

My son is 13 months old but up until 2 weeks ago only had two teeth for MONTHS. With those two teeth he ate EVERYTHING!!! From steak to apples to everything in between. Since about 9 months he has been on all table foods. I cut it up in small pieces and unless they have texture/gagging issues they usually do really well! Neither DS nor DD ever really had any choking issues.

Don't let the teeth issue deter you. There are kids that didn't have teeth at all until after a year and they still ate table food.
Really, they don't use the teeth to chew anyway. Molars are for chewing and they don't get enough molars to grind food for a long time. Just overcook everything and cut it into tiny pieces. I gave ravioli a lot, overcooked carrots, peas, chicken soup, I made mini shepards pies and put them in a muffin tin sprayed with oil. I froze them and then popped them out and I had little portions. I made quiona(grain) and orzo/veggie dishes. I got a lot of ideas from a book called superfoods for babies and I just modified them and kind of spun off my own creations.
Like I made a cheese sauce (flour butter milk and cheese) and boiled orzo and chopped frozen brocoli for ever and then I mixed it all together and froze it in ice cube trays. Then two of them would be a portion. I gave bananas and pears chopped soo small. strawberries and blueberries too. I also chopped grapes up reallllly smalll.

Re: Spinoff to my post- foods for 9-12 month old...IM CONFUSED
My kids are almost 10 months.....DD has 4 teeth and DS has none. And he eats better than she does! Just break everything up really small and he will get the hang of it. I still give them baby food sometimes especially if they are eating something new and not getting a lot. When they first started table food I gave them half table food/half baby food or pureed food each meal til they got better at the food.
It is overwhelming....start slow and he will be fine (and you will too)

DD will be turning 11 months in a few weeks and she eats everything and anything. She has 4 top teeth and 2 bottom. Just like her sister, she chews everything up just fine and both never had any gag issues.
The only thing I restrict with her right now are potato chips, popcorn and obvious candies.
Otherwise, nothing is off limits.

Re: Spinoff to my post- foods for 9-12 month old...IM CONFUSED
I do exactly what everyone on here is saying and Santino has two teeth. Sometimes I feel like I even shove too much in his mouth but he grinds everything well with his gumbs.
On another note..it is so hard. He is now refusing purees all together and I def feel like between the chewing, grabbing, things falling on the floor, loosing interest etc he is not getting enough like he would with the purees. It is sooooo frustrating. Starty slowely...half purees half table food.
I am probably one of the few that loves giving purees bc it ensure me he gets proper serving and it's seems easier to me!

This is why I started with one meal. I am doing it with dinner. Tonight they had baked chicken cut up with sweet potato "fries" ( I posted recipe on other post) they LOVED IT!! They fed themselves a decent amount and we fed them the rest.

DS has 2 teeth but he eats these huge chunks of mango and banana. When i saw that my mom was feeding him these mega chunks i almost had a heart attack but he mashed them like a pro. He also eats chopped up string beans, carrots, pieces of cheese, bread, pizza crust. He'd mash more with those gums if i let him. He eats orzo and i'll introduce spaghetti with meat sauce next week. He can also have little pieces of chicken. He still eats purees like a champ though which I'm thankful for bc i know he's getting what he needs.

Since 9 months Tyler has been off babyfood (except for the breakfast mixes because I am too lazy at 7am)
I give him teeny pieces. He only had two teeth up until two weeks ago.

Like everyone else said..tiny pieces. It takes forever, but they need to learn sooner or later. It took DD an hour to finish a waffle this morning.

DD's got 2 teeth on the bottom and the top 2 are just on the surface of her gums, yet she eats whatever I eat! I cut it up for her really small and let her gum everything.
My rule of thumb is if I can mash/break it up on the roof of my mouth with my tongue, then she should be okay. If something is tougher than I would like it to be, I make sure I cut it up small and mix it up with something softer (like mashed potatoes or sauce).
Some foods do take forever though! A waffle with a little syrup took her 45 minutes, but she insisted on eating a whole adult serving

I agree with the others about not letting teeth deter you from feeding her. DS is almost 15 months and has no teeth and eats a ton. He eats grilled cheese (cut up into small pieces), meatballs (broken up), pasta, applesauce, chicken (again broken up), sweet potatoes, potatoes, Dr. Praegers frozen veggie foods, hamburger (broken up). Give it a try. If he is ready he will eat, if not he won't.

DS has no teeth yet and he eats everything, if it was up to me I'd still have him on pureed foods but he completely rejects anything smooth, he likes texture. We only did baby food for about 2-3 weeks tops. He wants to have it in his and grab it and "chew" it. Seriously he eats hard graham crackers, toasted bread, whole fruits, no problem, he wants to eat these things, so now I just go with the flow and watch him. I don't even bother making small pieces b/c he gets mad if I don't give him the whole thing

I dont know either b/c DS is 10mo and not on table foods yet. I tried some stage 3's ..meats/pastas and he gags and chokes. So im thinking the textures are an issue or he has a sensitive gag reflex.
I think im going to just skip stage 3's and go to table food. but im going to do it slowly. he does eat cheerios/puffs and the chunkier fruits.
Start out slowly...see how your son does. start with things he can gum easily..mashed bananas, pancakes, waffles, stuff like that.

DS didn't cut his first tooth until 13.5 months. He was completely on table foods around 10 months. He didn't have any issues eating table food. Babies use their gums to break up food.

they mash the food with their gums.
my son JUST cut his first tooth (he is 10 1/2 months) and he has been eating everything we eat for almost 2 months now.
i still give baby food, but i am starting to transition to completely what we eat.
he just takes everything in and mashes it. i started with the softer foods, and then moved up to miniscule pieces of foods that need more chewing, and now i just give him smaller pieces of almost everything

pasta, chicken, tater tots, veggies, fruit etc all cut in small pieces. They get the hang of it. They know exactly what to do.
