I don't think it's rude at all, but I would make sure the value is still intact. Many merchants will assess a fee if a card is inactive for a period of time.

I have a rule about regifts -
If YOU don't like the gift, and would never BUY the gift yourself, then I think it's rude to regift. In genreal, I think it's rude to give anyone a 'gift' that you don't think they would use or enjoy -
If your kid has 3 of the same toy, well, then I see no harm in regifting (it's something your kid likes so you may have bought it for his friend anyway) KWIM?
As for a gift card, if you think the recipeint would use it (even though you would not) then I see no issue.

I would agree with this except I see point 1 a little differently. If you would never buy the gift yourself, but you know someone else would actually like/love/appreciate the item - then I say go ahead and regift. If you are regifting something you would actually buy for that other person, then I see nothing wrong. Of course as long as its in new condition, not used, open, etc.

Not rude as long as its intact and shows no obvious signs of regift ing. I've gotten gifts that aren't my taste but are perfect for someone I know, so ill give it to them.

agreed! On DS's bday we got a couple really cool toys that he already has. I saved them bc of bunch of my friends have LO's a few months younger, so rather than return and then go buy them the same damn thing in 3 months I put them in my attic and will give it to them for their bday, to me it is logical and time efficient lol
