Spinoff to how long do you plan on being out for....
For those girls who plan on going back to work right away, who will take care of the newborn? I'd like to go back right away, but both set of parents work, and I am really hesitant about placing my baby in daycare so soon.

My mom has a FT job, but is resigning next month. She's a foster parent also & plans to take care of a sick foster baby full time. The plan was that she would take care of my DC when the time comes. I currently work nights & go to school during day. I have to check into day care at my school, otherwise mom will watch baby while I'm in school & DH would take over @ night.

My mom just retired so she will most likely, and maybe a 2 days at my in laws...no clue!

i'm in the same boat as you. we live in PA and our parents are in NY. so unfortunately we will be using daycare. i plan to take the 6 or 8 weeks maternity leave my job allows. They also pay you 100% of ur salary while on leave. then i will probably take another 2 weeks of PTO. so the baby will be in daycare at 10-12 weeks old. not ideal but we dont any other options.

Hoping that I can bank as many vacation days, sick days personal days as possible.
At my job when you go on maternity leave, they use your accrued days first than you its paid maternity leave for 2 months.
After that, who knows. My mom & MIL are both off in the summer months. If I get pregnant within the next few months - they will be around for the first month or so. After that they both return to work. My mom is off from end of Nov through the end of Januray - so she would be able to watch the baby for that time...but I may have to work from home a few days or get a part time job else where. We need that second salary.

I'm PRAYING we can find someone to come to our house to watch the baby (I guess a nanny-even though I don't like that word. lol). I hope to be home with the baby for 6 months, then go back full time (working from home 1-2 days a week for at least a year). My mom is retired but she has so many grandchildren to spend her time with, I can't in good faith ask her to watch mine every day. I suppose everything just works itself out right??

Unfortunately we won't have the luxury of either of us staying home with a baby beyond whatever maternity and vacation/sick days I will have accrued. So I will probably be able to stay home for 12 weeks and then DH and I are hoping to each stay with the baby 2 days out of the week (my weekend days off and his days off are 2 weekdays) and then have my MIL HOPEFULLY care for the baby 3 days. This, of course, in an ideal world.
