I didn't know that we had to buy godparents gifts. Did you buy them something? If so what did you get?

Gift for the baptism? We didn't do that. You are honring them by asking them to take on that role. The day isn't about them, it's about the baby.

I didn't do it for my first son's godparents and I won't be getting anything for our second son's godparents in a week & a half. I had never heard of that before LIF, so I'm ok with not doing it...

Re: Spinoff to Godparent gift amount
Although I have learned alot of things on LIF, the idea of getting a gift for Godparent for me actually comes from an age old tradition in my culture. That being said, in my culture the Godparents also assume a very large role, physically, spiritually AND financially when it comes to the baptism/godchild.
When it came to my DD's baptism, my sister in law who was the Godmother had issues with what was asked of her and made it about herself (as she does with everything) so she definitly was not deserving of anything in my book. I can still barely look at her after what she pulled. My brother on the other hand was great and I wanted to get him something as a token thank you-- (some ideas I had were, tix to the us open, a monogrammed cigar cutter and case etc.. but none worked out so he hasnt gotten anything and probably wont at this point. I ddnt get anything for being my nephew, his son's godparent either and I didnt think twice about it). I think a nice card, which expresses teh sentiment and/or a token gift is more than lovely =) Maybe a framed photo from the baptism or smething of that nature?
