Spinoff to Daycare for twins... help!- Update

I wish I could post 2 smileys for this topic: one sad and one relieved. I haven't slept in 2 days.

I am in the final stages of the interview process for a new job, full-time. It is VERY sudden and unexpected, but financially we need it. However, I am thrust into this sudden realization that my children will need daycare.

I would really really love to send them to Tutor Time. Educationally and socially, I feel it's exactly what we are looking for. Financially, not so much :(

I was quoted $525 for 3 days/week for the two of them It includes a meal (early dropoff and diapers are the reason) Still, OMG. I would literally take home the exact same pay as I do now working p/t and having family watch them. This is no longer an option.

I now have the option of 2 days/week having my parents and in-laws watch them + a babysitter/nanny (I have one) for 3 days/week. While much more cost effective, I am worried that they won't get the socialization and learning that they would get from a daycare or if I didn't go to work, Mommy's learning and our trips to classes and playdates etc.

Do any of you feel that staying home with a nanny is ok? Has it gone well for you? Are they going to be at a disadvantage when they go to nursery school?

Yes, going to the library and Gymboree is definitely an option. although they'd have to walk, once the weather gets nice, it's no problem.

I just hope that by ONLY playing with each other, they're not at a disadvantage. As you know, baby I can be a handful and a bully. I would love for her to learn (in a methodical way) hands-on that it's not ok to shove a kid off of their toy and just take over. She needs to learn how to take turns. I am really just worried about this.

My twins have been with family/nanny since 6 months. They just turned 3this week and just recently I have been feeling like they need " school".
They will go in sept and I think that will plenty of exposure for socials skills etc before kindergarten

I dont have any experience with day care. We have the exact same situation as your option 2. A family member watches them 2 days a week and nanny 3 days. Our nanny is amazing. We found her on care.com. She has tons of day care experience and 3 young children of her own. She loves our kids and is constantly singing, talking, doing different stimulating games with them. I learn so much from her lol!!

I think twins automatically have a leg up since they have each other to play with. Plus it's SO much easier to not have to worry about packing them inot the car for drop off. She comes and caters to their schedule, not the other way around. I dont have to worry about packing a bag, etc. Way to stressful for me IMO.

They play with their cousin and my friend's kids on the weekends. The nanny also brings them to mother goose in the library. I definitely dont think they will be at a disadvantage when they go to nursery school.

Also, if it would make you feel better, can your parents or the nanny take them to a class during the week? do you live within walking distance to a library or gymboree?

Yeah I'm with you. Although I'm not a qualified early child care expert, I'm sure asan educator I'd do just fine. My aunt was a SAHM who did everything possible to foster my cousins' development. Without a daycare involved, they went to Princeton and UPenn. I'm just worried that school is so competitive now. Ugh
