Spinoff to Binkie
I have a question. I'm just curious what the push is to get rid of them by a certain age? Is it because they'll be getting teeth? because you think they just shouldn't need it? other orthodontic reasons? I guess this is something I haven't read up on and never really thought about getting rid of it because she only really uses it for sleep and if she's tired on a car ride.

Re: Spinoff to Binkie
I have read it effects their teething, and speech (it might hold them back from talking properly, or talking at all right now)

Yes, when Sammy was evaluated for speech at 18 months I was told get rid of the binkie and the bottle.

I'm not sure - but the longer they use one the harder the habit to break. My cousin still uses one, and she's going on 5!

Re: Spinoff to Binkie
again...same thing here. Not an issue so far because she ONLY uses it to sleep or nap

I do remember my ped. telling me that which is why I took it away during the day because when she was about 3 months I think she started the babbling then kind of stopped. It didn't take long for her to start babbling again.

Re: Spinoff to Binkie
We used to only use it at night or in the car but I find myself using it more during the day -- for example when we are out and about and she's in the stroller. She definately doesn't have it while we're playing.....when we're at home we keep it in the crib so she only gets it at night...but I see her reaching for it as soon as she gets in her crib now and that bothers me.
I would like to get rid of it by a year just because I'm afraid she'll get too addicted to it.
Does it effect teething? She doesn't have any teeth yet....and it's driving me nuts!

For me it was the younger you do it, the easier it is. You're going to hate having a 3 year old walking around with a pacifier.
Breaking a habit when they're infants takes days. After 1, it's about 2 weeks.
