Spinoff to 12-18 months old watching tv
How much tv does your child watch in a day? I don't like her to watch tv too much and I'll never have her watch tv just to have her watch tv. I mainly do it in the morning on weekends if I'm getting things ready or at night while I'm cleaning up.

My DD is 18 mo and although we have the tv on a lot, she really doesn't watch it at all. I think if she did start paying attention and actually watching, we'd turn it off more and limit watching to 15-20 min, probably no more than twice a day

DD watches between 45 minutes and an hour a day. DH gets her up in the morning, changes her, and immediately puts her in front of the TV with some toys. When I am showered and dressed I take her. (That's under a half hour).
Usually we are out and about but on days the weather is really gross or we don't get out, I'll let her watch a little at 2pm. Sometimes, even if we do get out I give her that half hour because I just need to regroup.
Then, she gets a little TV while I make her dinner. Depending on what I make her that could be anywhere from 5 min- a half hour.
It's a little more than I would like, but I have screened the content on the channel she watches and she watches TV during the times where the programs are age and developmentally appropriate.
ETA: she is 9 months and not mobile yet. I am sure this will change when she is on the go.

DS doesn't sit longer than a few minutes, but we tend to show him videos when we give him a bottle to calm him down. And I put the tv on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse in the morning when DH and I are leaving for work to distract DS from realizing we're leaving!

Spinoff to 12-18 months old watching tv
I am a FTSAHM and while they did not watch TV all day, they did watch it during breakfast (they sit in the living room and eat while i am making my own breakfast), Lunch only if they eat in the living room but they usually sit at the table and snack time. during one of those times i put on a movie. Well....I recently banned TV in my house. The only thing the kids are allowed to watch now are Doc McStuffins and LeapFrog shows. My 3 year old DD learned the words stupid and idiot from Toy Story and would start calling me idiot when i would put her in time out and started calling her brothers stupid. I was seriously livid and wanted to write Pixar a letter for putting words like this in their movies that kids watch. She also acts out all of the worst scenes from a TV show or movie. After a fit she had a few weeks ago I was putting her in time out and as i carried her up the stairs in front of my friend she yelled in my face "stop it you idiot". From there on out I said no more TV or movies and her behavior has been much better.

It's interesting. I put the tv on for twenty min in the morning while ds is in his play pen bc it stops fussiness. However, I don't see it as him actually watching TV . He is standing and watches a minute at a time and laughs. He doesn't actually sit and watch something straight- through. Hopefully, this lasts..

DS (19 months) watches seasame street, usually anywhere from a half hour to the full hour. Then he'll get an episode of Wallykazam or whatever else is on that he likes in the evening while I'm making dinner.
If it's a rainy day and we are stuck in doors, he gets a little more tv time, but in general I don't have it on *too* much. If we are at my parents and I need him to be busy while I help my mom, he gets a show I know he'll sit for.

My DS is 14 months old, the tv is mostly background noise. He rarely sits and watches anything for longer than two to three minutes. But he likes to listen to it while he plays.

OMG Toy Story is banned in my house too!!! My 2.5 y/o told me "shut up you idiot" b/c I wouldn't let her put more toothpaste on her toohbrush. She got it from toy Story. She went through a phase where that was all she was watching. I have to say I had never watched it and assumed it was appropriate. My Mistake!!! So now it is banned.

Same here. I put it on in the am when they have their bottles. Sometimes I put a show on when I sign onto work and dh had worked late the night before. Maybe an hour. Then it's on while they play after dinner when I clean up. Half hr tops but they only care about songs. They don't really watch. Then a half hr with bottles before bed.

DS is almost 10 months & doesn't really watch tv yet... it's on during the day & evening, but we're watching our shows so he barely pays attention to it. I don't put on kid shows for him yet.

DD has 3 fav shows, Team Umizoomi, Bubble Guppies and Doc McStuffins. More because of the songs they sing than anything else. Even while they are on, she only really pays attention when they sing and she'll dance long. otherwise, she just plays with her toys and its on for background noise. At that point, I just turn it off and play some music for her. She's almost 16 months

We always have the TV on in the background, otherwise the house is too quiet for me. I always did this though, even before I had kids.
I leave it on Disney Jr. usually and she runs over to it when a song comes on bc she likes to dance to them lol

I usually keep it on as background noise, but DS will only watch when he's interested. There are a couple of shows (Paw Patrol and Calliou) that he will actually watch. Other than that, he won't actually sit and watch an entire show.

This. My DD picked up "stupid" from the Aristocats movie. As soon as she said it (not even in the right context), I acted appalled & told her it wasn't a nice word & that she wasn't allowed to say it. Hasn't been a problem since.

my DD (23 mo) watches Tv in the Am while I am getting her ready for school but mostly Daniel Tigers neighborhood ( love this cause its all the things she is doing now) and Leap Frog ABC and 123's. She really only watches educational type shows.
DH is a TV addict so i hope shes not going to be like him.

My daughter is only 25 months and I was trying to do something and she didn't like it ( dressing her or brushing her hair) and she says loudly and dramatically- " I said, Enough!!" I realized she had got it from frozen when Elsa reveals her secret. Couldn't believe she picked up that line from watching the movie a few times.
She watches two shows like dora, peppa pig, mickey clubhouse on an average day. More on weekends.

Edited again- I realized you asked about 12-18 months. She would only watch one episode of the above on most days, more on weekends. But she is in daycare three days a week and my dad watches her two days and so she gets no tv during the day. When I'm home with her she gets more
