Spinoff question re: DR bills
I received a bill from the anesthesiologist from my surgery back in July. After they accepted what the insurance paid, they are billing me for the difference. Is this correct?

Re: Spinoff question re: DR bills
i think that all depends on your plan. when I had a high deductible HSA I usually owed whatever was left after the in-network discount.
with our current POS plan I have a 1000 individual deductible so I usually owe something until that is met..I owed a few hundred dollars recently after I finished IVF after with RMA.

Spinoff question re: DR bills
You should be only billed for your coinsurance percentage on the insurance negotiated rate if your deducible is met. If your deductible is not met you are also responsible for that.

Re: Spinoff question re: DR bills
Is it because they are an out of network provider? If so, ask them if you were ever advised, in writing, that they would not accept the contracted insurance rate. Throw around "Surprise Billing" as there are now laws that govern this scenario.

Spinoff question re: DR bills
Also call them and see what they can do. DS was in the nicu for 1 week and I'm "fighting" one bill they bille spit of network. They are trying to resubmit but if ins won't pay, they will only charge me for amount as if it was in network. If that makes sense. The bill is for $$. Oon I owe $94. If ins doesn't cover it then they will only charge me like $30 b/c I didn't have a choice of in network dr.
