Spinoff post to the one about when you are all taking your DC's for their holiday photos...
Is anyone doing their own?
It's not that we're cheap or anything but we always end up spending a fortune on pictures. And some of them never even end up getting displayed cuz we have no room. Of course we always get suckered into buying so many pictures, especially when they look so cute in every pose.
Last year we did it cuz it was DS's first christmas but this year we are opting to do it ourselves. Last year for his 1st Easter we did our own pictures and this is how they came out:

I can't afford to bring Jared to a place and pay $$$ for pics. So I am doing them myself this year.

That is what happened to us. In 17 months I have spent over $1000 on pictures. They are cute but sooo not worth all that money. I invested in some props and backdrops and called it a day

I bought 3 backdrops, a backdrop stand (on it's way), 2 candy canes, easter eggs, a silk rose petal mat, a faux fur rug, a bath tub with bubbles, giant crayons and next I want to get the number 2 for his birthday pics. Oh and I bought angel wings, giant Christmas coffee mug, a giant rubber ducky and chef apron and hat with whisk. A friend is having a baby this month so some props are going to be for him and for whenever we have another.

Those that take them at home,,,what do you do about lighting?
WHenver i take them at home, i get shadows even in natural light, and now my damn camera i think the white balance is off, my DD's christening pics came out yellow!
ETA: I take the majority of my own pics at home. I only take them to the portrait studio for christening pics, 1st xmas and 1 year pics.
I am so upset at KK and jcpenney took horrid pics that i had to buy cause i needed them. Errrrrr...
I need to get myself a screen and some lights!

My first floor has tons of high hats, spot lights, and lamps that I use to get the right lighting.
They do sell a simple kit for studio pics on ebay. I def think it is worth the investment.

It burns me that i can take those same pics the studios take at home and save myself $$$. Plus after my experience this weekend, i never want to give any of them a dime of my money again.

I take the picture myself every yr and then make cards through snapfish. Here are my 2005 & 2006 pics (the cards are not the ones I used though, I just threw these together now with my old christmas pics)

I always take my own on a white blanket backdrop and then digitally have it edited into a Christmas scene.

The only professinal pics we've done are DS's christening, his 1st christmas and his 1st birthday. We're done with professional pics. The only time we'll do them is for his birthday and for future religous occassions, like his communion or confirmation...
