Spinoff of the "2 year old in booster seat" post
In Europe, in some countries, as long as the baby is rear facing you can place the car seat on the front passenger's seat. Would you do that? My brother drives like that with his baby and it drives me just crazy.

If there are no airbags, maybe... But an air bag will crush a rear facing car seat and probably kill the kid in it... Airbags are too dangerous for a car seat to be in the front seat. Period...

This.
If you have a pick up truck with only 2 seats, or a 2 seat car and have the ability to turn the air bags off it is legal here as well. Personally, air bag switch or not I wouldn't put my child in that vehicle unless it was an absolute last resort/emergency.

There is a switch and you can easily turn the air bags off. Without the airbags th baby can sit there until 2.

If you have a 2 seater than I see nothing wrong with it. I would not pick the front over the back though.

If you can disable the airbags . If you can't, then NO WAY.

In European vehicles you can actively disable the airbags. NHTSA and other government agencies decided way back when that Americans (and by extension, Canadians) are not responsible enough to have active airbag disable switches, we must rely on passive disabling which doesn't always work. You can petition NHTSA for permission to install an on/off switch or disable the airbag in the front, but you'll be hard pressed to find a dealership willing to perform the task.
There are instances where kids HAVE to ride in the front in a RF seat. Certain medical conditions, lack of a back seat or a back seat which does not fit a RF seat etc.
Would I have my kids in the passenger seat without an active airbag? I don't know, it depends on the situation. I think we've had it hammered into us over the past 15 or so years that kids sit in the back and no RF seats in the front, etc so I think that will always influence my decision subconciously.
