PLEASE watch "Designed to Sell" on HGTV. it's not a premium channel, if you don't get it, please spring for the extra few bucks a month and WATCH IT!
take it down a notch. no one wants to see your clutter in every room (see pic below for an example). and when you have an open house, please make an effort to run the vacuum and please do not burn 20 Yankee candles. buyers will think you are covering something up and some of us would like to be able to I don't know... BREATH!

DH and I saw a house in Holtsville a while ago. they had an entire wall in their living room completely full of family pictures. and I mean, from floor to ceiling covering the entire wall!

Has anyone watched that Bravo reality show about real estate in California? These people actually have staging companies that come in, remove your furniture/fixtures, and set a "stage" with the right color walls, decorations, etc.
Crazy, but really funny the lengths people will go to. These are million dollar houses though - they can afford it I guess!

See, now- I think this is to the fault of the Real Estate agent. Their JOB is to try to get these houses sold. THEY should be watching Designed to Sell, and advising their clients!!!

Every year Westchester magazine
(which I usually dont' read) publishes its "Best of Westchester" list, which I read for the restaurants. This year, one of the bests was " Best Staging Comapny".
I was thinking, people actually do that? I guess that's important for Multi-million dollar homes.

I don't disagree... but honestly, if I was a seller, I would want to get TOP DOLLAR!! I would be ALL OVER that show (I am now and I have nothing to sell lol). you wouldn't believe what a huuuuuuge difference a few thousand $$'s does to the sale price of these homes. granted, the people on the show get all the labor for free, but things like SS applicances, granite counters and a fresh coat of paint get the sellers WAY above their asking price. it's crazy.

Oh, totally! But let's face it, the people that decorate like THAT, aren't exactly HGTV buffs.

I see your point. as a buyer, I would rather spend the $ and upgrade things to MY taste. it just amazes me... cheap window treatments and a fresh coat of neutral paint probably pays for itself tenfold (probably even more). these sellers are dumb - but I guess that's better for us
