Spinoff from FHM- Taking off ur shoes

Would you be offended if you went to someone's house and they asked you to take off your shoes? (if they had a child or not)

Nah, some people are a little fanatical about carpet, furniture, etc. It wouldn't bother me, I might do it too if I cared about my apartment that much.

Re: Spinoff from FHM- Taking off ur shoes

I would not be offended, I would just be taken back by their request and hope that their floors are clean so I am not sitting there in dirty socks all night

Re: Spinoff from FHM- Taking off ur shoes

If I was just visting a friend or family members def. not...

However once I went to this "toy" party and the girl had a gazillion people in her dirty apt. and made every single one of us take off our shoes...

Im a firm believer in the no shoes in the house rule... but I thought this was a little skezzy

Re: Spinoff from FHM- Taking off ur shoes

I wouldn't be offended per se, but I would reluctantly do it. I'd also think twice about going back to that person's house.

I don't get why people get white carpets and then make people take their shoes off. If you are worried about getting it dirty - don't get a white carpet bc they are ment to be walked on!

How do you know the person's feet is any cleaner than the bottom of their shoes? Some people are nasty and don't wash their feet. In the summer time people like to wear sandals. What if the person has toe jam oor foot fungus? I'm sorry I just think feet are yucky and should be kept in shoes if you are not in the privacy of your home.

I wouldn't take offense to it - most of the time, I take my shoes off - cause I can't stand wearing them!

I agree- I don't' wear socks in the summer & you probably don't want me taking my shoes off.

All you need is a welcome mat for people to wipe their shoes on.

I wouldn't be offended- but I am not a big fan. I tend not to wear socks a lot, especially in the summer.

I would be taken aback but I would comply and depending who it was would only reluctantly go back there.

I never got the can't walk on carpets thing - we used to have an off white carpet and we just vacuumed a lot, spot cleaned it for fast clean up and had it shampooed every few months. We knew when we purchased the rug that it would require more upkeep then a darker one.

Re: Spinoff from FHM- Taking off ur shoes

hey, I have no problem taking off my shoes. I do however walk around outside with nothing on my feet so I can just as easily trapse stuff into your house with or without shoes on.

I usually only ask others to take off their shoes if they are really muddy or snowy. I rent and do not own so I try to limit how bad the carpets get. But hey, I do steam clean the carpets - great invention!

I wouldn't be offended.

I grew up with my Dad and brother since I was eight. Yes, that's when I started to clean. By the time I was a teenager I was cleaning the overwhelming majority of a 5 bedroom, 2.5 bath home and we had a dog. I lived in the house until last year and still will occassionally clean a room when I'm over there... I sympathize with people who try to keep their house clean. Chat Icon It used to take me HOURS to clean that huge house.

Re: Spinoff from FHM- Taking off ur shoes

offened no, be annoyed yes. how do I know what you use to clean your floors or if they are clean, do you have pets, did you clean their accidents properly, what did you trek in the house from walking barefoot outside or from wearing sandles? the other approach- how do you know if my socks or feet are clean? you dont know everyones personal hygiene.
Feet sweat, whether you are wearing socks or not. I personally would not want someone putting their feet , socked or not on my furniture or floors. I would not want the oils from our bodies on them.- and what about the odor?????????
shoes were meant for a reason- brooms and vaccums were made for a reason- if you want your house picture perfect and have white carpets then dont have people over and make them feel like they are dirty! some shoes are worth more than your carpets!!!!
I would never ask someone to take their shoes off in my home, I clean everyday anyhow and thats how it should be- I want people to feel like they are at home in my home! some people are embarrassed of their feet or maybe they didnt put matching socks on or didnt have time to do the laundry and put on dirty socks and they come over and now you spring on them and " oh you have to take your shoes off" yea now that person feels real great!!! I wouldnt be surprised if those people are making fun of you or talking behind your back or even return for another visit!

I agree

And.....the thing about pets rings true for me. I am not really a fan of pets. If you have one, I don't expect you to put it away or anything, but I have been in some homes with pets where I would be offended if I was asked to take off my shoes. It was just too yucky for me to want to go shoeless.

And in our 30s, my friend and I still laugh about a family member of hers that would make people take off their shoes and wear little paper slippers when they came over.

I used to think that but then I started thinking about how gross shoes are and where they have been and then how babies crawl on the floor and put their hands in their mouths. So, I think I will ask people to do it when we have a baby.

I do it anyway wherever I am b/c I'm more comfortable.

Not offended, taking off your shoes is common in Asian households (or at least the ones i have been in).

But I only ask if it is very muddy or snowy outside.
