Spinoff- commute??
so i noticed on a previous post that alot of ladies work for the DOE- as do i. my question is, whether or not you're a teacher- if you have a pretty long commute, esp if you're in the city- are you worried or concerned about your commute once we all *hopefully* become pregnant??? i cant stop wondering if i will have a really hard time battling morning sickness and fatigue along with rush hour and a commute? i have over an hour drive, at least, both ways. and coming in late isn't really an option...

Re: Spinoff- commute??
I am a teacher and I was teaching in Flushing. (I live in Stony Brook) I was basically on the road about 4 hrs. a day and in the early months it wasn't bad. (I got pregnant in January) I didn't have morning sickness thankfully but I was BEYOND exhausted every day so that was hard. By the end of the school year it was getting a lot harder to commute because I was peeing constantly which is a real problem when you're stuck in a car for hours, I was getting bigger so sitting in the car for so long was getting uncomfortable, and I was just hot and tired. I was soooooo thankful to have the summer to relax and be home until my DD was born in Sept.

Re: Spinoff- commute??
I definitely worry about this. My commute is about an hour each way (I'm a teacher too). I worry about having to pee, being uncomfortable, sitting through snow storms! I remember one conversation with DH where he insisted that I should stop working a MONTH before my due date! He didn't quite understand that it doesn't work that way.

Re: Spinoff- commute??
my cousin's wife works in NYC for the fire department as a counselor and she vomited on herself a few times. She said she brings extra clothing with her now. I feel bad for her but give her credit, she is still working full time and going to school full time even being 4 months pregnant.

Re: Spinoff- commute??
i'm not a teacher. i'm not worried about morning sickness during my commute as much as having to get up and pee every 2 minutes in my office.
i have about a 45 min commute each way but if i get sick some days i can work from home (i think) so i'm lucky in that aspect.

sick passenger is code for homeless guy, most of the time; an MTA employee told me that. but I'm with you 100% I certainly don't want to be puking on the subway.

I know this isnt the most pleaseant solution but, it might be an idea. You could carry a thermal lunch bag (square one w/a zipper) w/a few plastic grocery bags in it, an air freashner (the ones shaped like a tree) & wet wipes. If you are going to get sick & cant get to the bathroom, just puked in the bags & tie them up, then zipper the lunch bag. might work!
