Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
What do you do? Do you leave your car and walk a few miles looking for that gas station you just passed? Or stay with your car praying someone drives by?

All depends on the situation. If I have my kids with me. Where I am. Time of day. I think it's a game time decision.

First, I'd cry like a baby
Then, like KPToys said, for me it would depend on time of day, where I am ... but I'd probably hope a good samaritan would stop and let me use their phone to call AAA.

Re: Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
as long as I am in my car- I would be fine
I have tele aid- which is like on star
I pay a decent amount a year to make sure I am just a press of a button away from help
(I drive ALOT on my own and this makes my Dad and DH feel better)

I also have a program on my car that allows me to get help. I also believe that if it senses an accident they will immediately dispatch someone via GPS.
I like the piece of mind.

Re: Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
since i am very visibly pregnant i would probably sit and wait until i could flag down a passing police car - i don't think i'd be walking anywhere unless i could actually see a nearby exit ramp. and no, i wouldn't risk flagging down a total stranger.

I would probably walk to a station......After I panicked for about 1/2 an hour!!!!
I was thinking of getting those signs they sell that you put in your rear-window that says CALL POLICE in big letters.....

yep- if my air bags deploy- they call the police incase I can't
it's a great service-
I get directions when I am lost and help when I need it!

Re: Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
i might flag down a car to use their cell phone. How random would it be for the next passing car to be a murderer/rapist? Obvioulsy I would only do this in day light where I am clearly visible to all the other cars passing by.
If it was night, i don't know what I would do. I would not feel comfortable walking on a highway, but if it was a busy residential street than I would walk.

Re: Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
This happened to me in college with a friend of mine. It was the middle of winter on Ocean Parkway by Jones Beach. I don't know what it's like now, but back then, Ocean Parkway was desolate during the winter. There were no cars going by, so I decided to walk to one of the beaches for a pay phone. It would have been a number of miles, but I had no choice and it was going to get dark soon.
Fortunately a park employee going in the opposite direction saw us walking and helped us out. He told us that if his daughter was stuck in that situation, he hoped someone would do the same for her.
But if that were to occur today, it would depend on the circumstances: where I am, who's with me, time of day, time of the year, etc..

Re: Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
I think I would walk it if I was on a side road (not the LIE or any parkway) If I was on one of those roads I have no idea what I would do b/c people drive so freakin fast, I guess just sit and wait till a cop stops (hopefully) but I think I'd cry if I was stuck on one of those roads

Re: Spinoff: Car breaks down and you have no cell phone
one of the reasons I lease. New car, less likely for a breakdown.
I had that happen once. I broke down 200 miles from home. No cell, no money..big problem.
You don't want to know what I had to do to get home.
