Spinoff - what's your strangest memory of V-day?
One year when I wasn't dating anyone, a work friend and I decided to meet for drinks on Vday. When she showed up she brought me a red rose, the individual ones they sell on the street. It was strange bc I never knew if it was supposed to be a nice gesture to a friend or more - something unspoken that I was supposed to know. I still have no idea if I was dense or if she was waiting for me to say something

Re: Spinoff - what's your strangest memory of V-day?
I had a really bad Vday once.
Every possible thing went wrong.
My mom had fallen down the stairs in the end of January and was just becoming able to feed/dress herself again.
My dad had just walked out on all of us on Feb 12.
It was raining. FH showed up very very late because he had ordered special lavendar roses for me from a florist in GC I knew had them but then in the dark and rain he couldn't find it and he ended up walking up and down the street in the rain and they closed so no roses.
He also bought me Godiva chocolates in advance because there was a sale, and he had had hte box like standing sideways somewhere, but I guess it was warm because the chocoalte had melted and resolidifed and was totally gross.
it was just a total disaster and he was trying to make my horrible day good, and it was just like every kind of bad.

Re: Spinoff - what's your strangest memory of V-day?
i had moved into my new apartment for the first time alone in jan. i had only had a couch and a guy i was dating came over at the last minute (he wouldnt commit to plans earlier which is why we're no longer together TG).
I had received a box about a week after moving in that was addressed to the previous residents who hadnt lived there in 6 months. The box just sat in the corner for over a month until this guy told me to open it up. i didnt have time to bring it back to the PO. i know i shouldnt have opened it but i knew it was food cuz the return address was one of those harry and david places.
it was chocolate! we at a bunch of it and then i broke up with him a few days later

Ladies Night at a bar in the city.
Every creepy guy imaginable in attendance.
We definitely had laughs afterwards.

I had to fly to Memphis, TN on V day and spend the day alone there for work. My FIL was sick and they moved him to hospice that day and I couldn't be there to support my DH.

My close (girl)friend gave me a rose & I made her chocolate covered strawberries. We sat on the steps of the parade field, drinking wine & eating chocolate covered strawberries & toasting to friends.
Later we went out the bars - where we danced the night away. It was funny because there were a lot of couples there but it seemed like no one was having a good time.

There was one year where both my BFF and I were single on V Day....we had both recently broken up with our boyfriends and just wanted to go to dinner somewhere that wouldn't be filled with couples wearing red and holding hands so we went to Pizza Hut. The idiot waiter thought we were lesbians
We just pigged out on pizza and talked trash about our exes LOL.

Re: Spinoff - what's your strangest memory of V-day?
Well Sr. year of HS my bf (of 3 years) reserved a room at the Kew Motor Inn. I had bought special undergarments & was very excited for my (& our) first time in a hotel (sleazy or not ). Well we must have driven up/down Queens Blvd. 50x & couldn't find it. We were going to go there early, spend time there & then go to a nice dinner. Well we started arguing, getting antsy driving back & forth & not finding it & ended up at McDonalds. We ended up going to another motel & on the way home saw the Kew as we were getting on the GCP
Second freaky V-Day was when I had just gotten out of a long term relationship & I was online dating. I was talking to this guy for a couple weeks & he invited me to dinner on V Day (wasn't thrilled about that being our first date). Now I never met him b4 & he had this elaborate night planned. Well first, he picked me up outside my office in this old, beat up station wagon (strike 1); we go to this little French restaurant in NYC & he had a dozen roses on the table (red) in a hand painted vase he had bought for me (over the top for a first date). Honestly, from the get go there wasn't really an attraction so the entire night was very uncomfortable. He then insisted on driving me home & it was awkward saying goodbye.
3rd one was my "first" bf V-Day. I had a crush on the boy down the block & I had an idea he liked me as more than a friend to. He told me he had a surprise for me at his house so I walked down w/ him & he had a single red rose for me & a teddy bear & balloon.

Re: Spinoff - what's your strangest memory of V-day?
When I was a freshman in high school, I was sorta dating DH (obviously NOT DH then), and I waited all day to hear from him. Finally, I went out to dinner with my dad (I think my mom was working late). When I got home, I went to the computer and there was an IM from him saying "I didn't do anything for Valentine's Day because I asked a girl to double with me and my friend and she said yes." THAT was a bad V-Day! I played TLC's "I Miss You So Much" over and over and cried. Haha, I was such a drama queen.

Re: Spinoff - what's your strangest memory of V-day?
When I was 16, this boy who lived in my building at the time sent me 2 dozen long stemmed roses that came in a clear carton that had to be at least 4 ft long. Each rose had an individual tube with water and a huge teddy bear. I'll never admit to DH, but those were the prettiest flowers I've ever received!
The killer is, he wasn't my boyfriend. Annnd he was either 22 or 23 years old I was so embarrassed and thought my father was going to kill him or me!
