Spinoff - Re: Water testing

Now that we know what the PPM's in most bottled water are (thanks to Acerone's diligence!).
And the fact that LI's tapwater one of the better ones out there, especially if you use a Brita.

And if you knew this information regarding bottled water

Plastic Water Bottle Facts
Average Serving Size 12 fl oz.
Servings Per Container: only, ever 1

Amount Per Bottle Production
Crude Oil ... 3 fl oz.
Water Required ... 3x bottle size

Total Bottles
Total plastic for bottles ... 900,000 tons
Total CO2 produced ... 2.5 million tons
Total oil used to produce ... 17 million barrels
Total bottles not recycled ... 80%
Percent of water from tap ... 40%
Time to decompose ... Up to 1,000 years

How many would switch to filtered water at home.

BTW, I already use a Brita and have been for years so I cannot answer this question!Chat Icon

Before I moved (to NC) I only drank my tap water...It was awesome. I even went as far as fooling DH letting him think I was buying the big Poland spring when i was filling it with Tap.Chat Icon

Now, since I moved here, my tap water taste like crappola. I mean truly awful. I have a brita, still taste like poop. I have boiled it, and yes it is better but overall still poopy. So while I am living here I will be buying the generic Southern Home water, Which BTW is the bomb.

All I drink is tap water, unfiltered! I have no issues with it. We do have a water cooler at hime wiht a Deer Park water jug on top, but DH drinks that. Somehow, the water cooler skeeves me!

Re: Spinoff - Re: Water testing

I feel you poll is very biaised.

In essence you are telling people who drink bottled water that we are "bad" people.

I try to be green. We recycle when we can. I re-use our plastic bags.

I use a brita pitcher.

DH uses water bottles. I can't get him to stop. I've tried.

But I am ver green in so many other ways, that I don't feel as bad I guess. If it was my way he would be be refilling them or using a refillable one. but long story short, it doesn't work with his cool packs etc.

Chat Icon I really wish they made the exact size water bottles in reusable ones. I would get him to switch in a heart beat.

either with a faucet purifier or without. we're currently using a Brita pitcher and really like it. and it's very inexpensive. $15 for a 4-pack of filters which last about 2-3 months each. and the water tastes really good!

Re: Spinoff - Re: Water testing

After much calculating in many ways..we broke down and bought different sizes of reusable water bottles and use a filter and refill every day...originally, we did it to save money, but now that green is in, we'll go for that, too Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff - Re: Water testing

I pretty much only drink tap water. We have filters at home, and a filter at work, but it's all tap. I had a bottle of Poland Spring the other day, and it tasted weird! Chat Icon I much prefer the taste of tap over bottled water.

I'm in NC and we have our own well, which has been tested. We still put in a reverse osmosis water filtration system, just to be sure....

Re: Spinoff - Re: Water testing

DH and I drink brita filtered water and we both bring reusable plastic containers to work every day.

I am very picky about water taste, since it's basically all I drink, and I don't like the taste of tap water, but the brita filter makes it better.

Re: Spinoff - Re: Water testing

Funny story about water. My parents have a filter on their sink and they fill up these glass bottles and keep them in the fridge. I never knew but these glass bottles are old Vodka bottles. The first time DH ate over my house he thought that my parents were chugging full glasses of vodka at the dinner table! Chat Icon

but yeah I only drink tap water. At home I refill plastic bottles ( I know that is bad but oh well )and I have a hard plastic bottle that I bring to work.
