Spin off to what do you call your ILs
Ok, so for those of you out there who call your ILs by either their first names or Mr. & Mrs. _______. What do you plan to call them once you have kids and if you do have children, what do you call your ILs in front of the kids.
Also, do you think it would be appropriate to approach them and ask, what would you like me to call you?
I've thought about doing this b/c I feel kind of silly referring to my ILs as Mr. & Mrs. ________ but they've never said anything otherwise so I don't know what to call them and I don't want to just start calling them mom and dad...

I think once we have kids I will refer to them as Grandma & Grandpa or whatever they choose to be called - My parents were/are Nana & Poppy
I know for a fact that my MIL wants me to call her Mom. I refuse to. I have a Mom...thanks. I call DH's Grandpa - Grandpa because I never had a Grandpa, so that made that easy.
I've thought about asking her several times on what should I call you because I'm uncomfortable calling you Mom, but never do. She's a strange person...she's made several "remarks" about wanting me to call her Mom and how her SILs both don't call her anything.
I feel silly calling them Mom & Dad, Mr. & Mrs. and by their first names.

I call my IL's by first names. DH and I have one child so far and sometimes we call them what DS calls them but when I call my MIL on the telephone or speak to either of them directly I think that would be weird.
Why don't you throw it out there and see how they react to it? Or ask them " Do you mind me calling you by your first name?"

My inlaws are called "Safta" and "Sabba" whcih is grandmother and grandfather in Hebrew (they live in Israel).

We have a daughter and on occasion when we are over - we call them nonno and nonna - to teach our daughter to refer to them that way - even though she is 8 months - i guess its never to early to start.
If I speaking w/them - i call them mom or dad -
I know who my real parents are and my inlaws have been really great to us - so it doesn't bother me to call them mom or dad.

Thanks. My husband and my mom speak to DD in Hebrew, so its just natural that she would call her grandparents from Isreal that. I want her to be bilingual.

That's the difference right there... That key sentence...I too know who my real parents are, but if I told you the stories...I'm sorry...she doesn't deserve to be called Mom...ONLY and ONLY my Mom does.

 I think that is GREAT! I think that is so important!
I grew up in (what should have been) a bilingual family and never learned Italian. My Grandmother came over and was teased about not being able to speak English...so when we were growing up she never spoke Italian.

me too! My parents spoke 5 language and spoke to me in... English. Hebrew (one of the languages they both spoke) woudl definitley have come in handy being married to an Israeli  No matter how much I study it, I will never be fluent the way I would have been if they spoke it to me at home.

See that's the thing...it's not that his parents are terrible. They're not. But on the other hand they have done some stuff that makes it kinda hard for me to consider them *my* parents. I've thought about asking my DH to see what he says...but I have a feeling I'll get "call them whatever you want" which is not going to help much.
As for DH and my parents, I know he doesn't feel comfortable referring to them as mom and dad and they know that so they haven't pressed the issue but I don't doubt it will come up eventually. They're big into having their SILs and DILs refer to them as mom and dad. I'm actually pleasantly surprised they haven't said anything yet.

I call them by their first names- and always will-BUT with the future children-I assume I would refer to them as Grandpa/Grandpa (whatever they want to be called in SPanish)

Right now I call them Mom and Dad.
When little one arrives I may refer to them as grandma and grandpa (they already are for my one nephew) and my parents are Nana and Paaaa (for my other nephew).
I just want to keep everyone the same..LOL

Ya know... I grew up with the world calling my mom, mom or mom C which came out like mommsie.
Me personally... I don't think I could ever call another woman, mom. It just would not feel natural. I call my IL's by their first name and have since the beginning.
What do all of your other IL's call them? Call them what you want. If they do not like it, they'll correct you.
Honestly... it is such a rare occassion that I have to address them by any name so it's no big deal but I definitely would feel strange to call them Mr. and Mrs. and if they do not tell you not to call them than now that you're married... that's strange. 
Oh... as for when we have kids... when they [kids] are around, I will most likely refer to IL's as Grandma and Grandpa but if it's just the grown ups, first names it is.

to their faces - nothing, I avoid it altogether, once in a while I will let Mr and Mrs ____ slip and of course someone always has to point it out
