spin off to first bday parties

Am I the only one who will not be doing a first birthday party? Im having cake with family and close friends only at my house. I feel kinda guilty about it but I cant see spending so much money when DD wont even "get it". Still, sometimes I question whether I should do it or not...am I the only one?

i don't think you're the only one.

what we want to do is a big first birthday celebration (keep in mind, this is the first of any real celebration for loey since we have just moved back from san diego).

for the rest of his birthdays, we plan on doing a "kids party" at a place like gymboree or whatever and then having family over for cake.

we do want a big first birthday though - but we also have a lot of family members!

We won't be doing a huge party either- I'm with you on that. We'll have a little thing with family and maybe a couple close friends. Nothing more than that.

We're just having like 30-40 people at our house since we had the big christening. I'm still doing a theme and decorating though. No centerpieces, or favors. Theres only a few kids coming so I'm still thinking of goodie bag ideas for them.

Don't feel guilty at all!!

We are doing a big first birthday and then the years to follow will just be kids party & small family gathering.

I am NOT doing this every year

I am having it at the house, about 30 people. There is no rule that says you have to do something big!

Same here. Huge family = big first but after that we'll do kids places + cake at home w/ just us, grandparents, and prob aunts.

Same here! Our immediate family, i.e. parents, siblings, nieces and nephews is about 30 people!!! If we were to include our aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, we would literally be inviting 150 people - which we did for his Christening - but are not doing for his birthday party.

the only thing you need is for your child to be surrounded by the people who love him/her. anything else is extra and totally unnecessary. Chat Icon

Re: spin off to first bday parties

We didn't do s big 1st birthday party for DD and we won't do a big one for DS.

Just cake and ice cream, pizza with family at the house. About 15 people probably?
