Spelling of a Name

I want opinions- but I'm not good at this site so I have no clue how to post polls or pics lol.
We are definitely name our Chat Icon Dylan Shea. We agreed on it almost instantly but now that we know we are having a girl we can't agree on how'd we spell Dylan. His family basically was all telling me it HAS to be Dylann with 2 n's. I don't know if I hate the idea so much bc I don't like the spelling or bc his pushy mom was the one who started it and got everyone on her side. My mom thinks if we are going to make any changes it should be Dylynn so it looks more feminine. She also is worried if we did Dylann people will pronounce it "Dil- Ann".
Opinions? Dylan ? Dylann ? or Dylynn?
who knew spelling a name could be such a hard thing to decide on!

I agree with your mom that Dylann would be pronounced Dyl-ANNE...that's how my mind reads it. However, Dylynn doesn't look right to me with 2 y's so close.

I'd stick with Dylan. Or if you want an alternate spelling, try Dilynn. But I don't think it's necessary.

Stick with Dylan or whatever it is YOU and your dh want. Your mil needs to back off. Unfortunately that's only the beginning when it comes to getting unsolicited advice.

Pretty name!

I would stick with Dylan. Don't worry about what your mother in law says.

I really dont love all the "creative" spellings. Especially when people use extra "Y"s - to me DYLYNN looks like a mistake.

Re: Spelling of a Name

I would personally stick with Dylan. The other spellings really don't sit well with me, and it's nobody's choice but your own. I know that can be difficult with family members who matter sharing their opinion...but you need to pick what YOU like and what YOU think it best for baby!

Dylan, definitely. The other spellings look silly IMO. And please don't let anyone guilt you into a different spelling, next think you know it will be another issue! I wish people would keep opinions to themselves unless asked. Chat Icon

Re: Spelling of a Name

I agree with everyone else. I personally do not like creative/invented spellings. It makes getting personalized things much more difficult. It also is confusing for children.

Spelling of a Name

Spell it the way you and DH want to.
Your child, your choice.

My opinion, one 'n' is the more traditional spelling and the one easiest pronounced.

My DH is very easy to sway, so all it took was one person saying that they thought it was a masculine spelling and then he was with everyone else. I had to remind him that traditionally the name is a MALE name, so yes people are going to think that way. We really like it though. Thanks for all the opinions. Especially since they all took my side :)

I grew up with a girl named Dylan...plus Ralph Lauren's daughter is Dylan, as in Dylan's Candy Bar Chat Icon Chat Icon
