Speaking of Godparents....
How many are picking strictly family or are picking family, friends or in-laws.
We are asking DH's sister and my brother because I feel more comfortable with family only - God forbid something happens in someone's marriage or a friendship breaks off.
But, my Godson is my friends son....

our best friends from childhood, who happened to be our maid of honor and best man in our wedding last year... the only family that we have that I would pick lives too far away so I'd rather have someone local and these two have been with us through thick and thin

We chose my bff and her dh. They are my family..I've known her for 30 years and him almost 15. I am the godmother to their oldest child, and we always knew we'd be each others godparents. Dh thinks of them as family as well, so there was no conflict.
If you feel comfortable, then I say pick whomever you feel would be the best influences morally and spiritually to your child, whether or not they are family.

Strictly family for us.
The youngest of my sisters & the youngest of my brothers for this 1st baby!!
The next should we blessed with another child will the older of my sisters & the older of my brothers!!
Not sure after that if there are more!

My sister and DH's brother are the God parents to my DD. We picked my best friend and my brother to be the GodParents for this baby.

With our second: My BIL (sister's husband) and DH's Aunt.
I don't think we would ever go outside the family.

however, i don't necessarily feel that godparents have to be your siblings.

When we chose Jared's godparents, it was my dh's cousin and his girlfriend. They just got married last weekend, so that makes is more solid.
The next baby, we're asking my dh's friend and his fiance.

we are both up in the air on the godparents right now... DH and i are disagreeing at the moment on this topic...  we were trying to stick with family but i have no sisters 4 the godmother and i only have close friends...

I am choosing my two best friends to be the godmothers to my twins, and the godfather will be my brother and my dh brother... My friends are like family to me and trust them with all my heart... there like my sisters........
