space use help!
Hi all - I just stopped lurking and made an account. My husband and I moved into a condo in Brooklyn a few months ago and are settling in. It's a duplex. Downstairs we have 2 bedrooms (one of which is the master) and a bath, and outside the bedrooms there is a big open area like a family room type space. We don't know what to do with it! We have a living room set up upstairs already. Originally my husband was thinking about making that an entertainment room but I nixed that because it is right outside our bedroom and I don't want to hear him playing video games if I am trying to sleep!
What would you do with the space? I was thinking of making it like a reading room/sitting room, since I still have 10 boxes or so of books to unpack (but no bookshelves to put them in)...

We have a guest room/office upstairs, otherwise we'd definitely do that! I don't think I have a pic but it is just an open rectangular space, nothing super unique about it! There is an alcove under the staircase, too. I was thinking of maybe getting bookshelves that match the angle of the staircase (if that makes sense) but haven't found anything in the right size.

I would make that an extension of my master with a cozy reading nook. Could you fit two comfy chairs, a table and install built in shelving in the alcove? If you have more space I would do a chaise. I would love to have a space like that!

I would probably use it as a library and art gallery space. One side can be built in bookcases with perhaps a window seat with storage underneath and the other I would put up some paintings with special lighting over them. A nice cozy chair would be nice too.
