sorry, long rant....just had to get it out...
so i've been sick with something for awhiles. i'm not sure if they were separate episodes or if all the infections are linked. but 2 wks ago, i was + for UTI and given nitrafurin antibiotics. i was 4 wks then. a few days after finishing up the nitrafurin, i came down with a crazy sore throat, cough, fever and cold flashes. i thought it was the UTI that wasn't cleared up and spreading around.... but on monday, all of that started to clear up so i figured i'd wait until tuesday for my scheduled ob appointment to see what was going on since they would be doing urine/blood tests. after the ob visit on tuesday, no one told me when i should call or when anyone would get back to me regarding the test results. on wednesday night, i started having fever/chills again. on thursday morning, i had severe stomach pains and the next thing i knew was having a severe diarrhea episode! i called my ob who happened to be on call and was super nice (having been woken up at 5am). she told me to rest, hydrate and make an appointment with my pcp if it got worse. on thursday afternoon, i called the ob's office for my test results to see if anything in them indicated that i was still carrying around a UTI but no one called me back. i called again on friday as well 2 minutes before the office closed at 4pm and was told the office was already closed! i was still running fever/chills and not feeling 100% so had the ob on call that day call me back. he prescribed antibiotics for me and told me to check in with my pcp. so friday evening, i email my pcp because i didn't have her office number and in the past she was really responsive to email. i get an out of office email with the on call phone number for my pcp's practice and call that. the doctor on call from my pcp's office was super nice, listened to my entire story and told me what i had sounded viral. she also said she wasn't sure why the ob just prescribed me antibiotics again and asked if he saw something in my blood/urine results. she wanted to make sure that i was being given antibiotics for a specific reason so she had me call the ob on call to double check. when i got the ob on call on the line, he said he didn't have my blood test results. so basically he had prescribed me antibiotics probably because i sounded so miserable and was asking for it. the pcp on call calls me back and i tell her what the ob on call said. she tells me that if it were her, she wouldn't prescribe me antibiotics since i am pregnant like that. she was also able to get my blood/urine test results (since they're all on the NSH system) and said everything looked fine. so i ended up not taking the antibiotics and am on bed rest trying to stay hydrated.... this morning, i get a call from my regular pcp who basically started coming down on me for emailing her (she was on vacation) and if i felt really bad, i should've gone to the ER. that if what i had was pregnancy related, i should be calling my OB and not having her doctors pull my test results from the OB's office, that if i wasn't sure about the antibiotics i should've asked the ob on call and be more savvy about it. basically, having gone through a week long of being sick and frustrated, i felt like i was getting told off and that it was my fault for not doing a better job of following up with my ob. but seriously, what else could i have done? i called the ob's office on thursday for test results and no one got back to me. i called on friday and they said they were closed. when i get a dr to call me back, he gives me about 2 min. to tell him what's wrong, didn't sound interested, prescribed me antibiotics and specifically told me to check in with my pcp. i'm so upset right now (maybe because of hormones too) but it just feels like whatever i tried to do was wrong! ugh am i being too sensitive?

No, you're not being to sensitive. You're sick (fever, chills, and diarrhea are all real symptoms; it's not like you're being a hypochondriac), pregnant and scared. And unable to get answers from the doctor's office that ran your tests.
Your PCP sounds like a jerk. You emailed them the situation; you didn't call demanding answers and yelling. They read about your problems and THEY chose to pursue it by following up with the lab results. They could have just called/emailed you back and told you to go the ER if you were worried, but they didn't.
Anyway, I hope that by now whatever sickness it is has passed and you're feeling better. If not, there are tons of walk-in clinics that you can go to, to see if you need medication for your illness, or you can go to the ER if you're worried about your pregnancy (although it just sounds like you caught a bug and it's taking a long time to work its way out of your system). Feel bettter.

aww i would prob feel the same way. so many offices just don't know how to handle people anymore. it's like, they see something all the time - but they don't remember that there are real feelings on the other end of it. especially when it's a pregnant patient, it's even more confusing and frustrating for us. i'm sorry you had to deal with this on top of not feeling well. maybe you should seek out a new pcp?

thanks dava and krista for reading the long rant and taking the time to reply i really appreciate your thoughts and am so glad that i got your objective opinions. for the whole morning, i really thought i was being too sensitive
yea, i'm most likely going to switch pcps to the other dr. in the practice that was really kind enough to listen to my whole situation. hopefully this bug will leave soon and i won't need to call them up again!

OMG! I hope you are feeling better! Both your PCP and your OB sound like jerks! How could they just ignore you and then expect you to just sit pretty and wait until they felt like developing a bedside manner!! No way!! Are you in Nassau or Suffolk County?? I have a great OB and PCP if you need. Hang in there

thanks so much fran it was just my regular pcp and 2nd ob on call that was kinda messed up. i'll try to give them the benefit of the doubt that they were having bad days. i'm guessing my regular pcp was annoyed that i emailed her while she was on vacation something she thought could've been pregnancy related. and the 2nd ob on call i'm guessing just wasn't super interested in getting to know the details. really frustrating.... i'm in nassau btw!!

I am in Suffolk and my OB is in Deer Park..It is so frustrating when Dr's act like buttholes!! Like they would be anything without their patients!! I really hope that for your sake they are not like this regularly. It especially bothers me when they dont return phone calls and act like you matter. I am glad you are feeling better.
