sorry for crashing! Metformin question..

For those that were on Metformin before getting pregnant, did your doc have you continue it through pregnancy? is it a safe drug to take??

I took it to about 12 weeks...
Dr. Braverman said it is OK to take during pregnancy, and he keeps his patients on it b/c it lowers chances of GD which I had with my DD.

However my perinatologist (koffinas) and OB wanted me off- so off I went, at 12 weeks.

edited to add- metformin does cross the placenta where as insulin, if needed, does not- that is why a lot of docs don't want you on it after 12 weeks, when the placenta really takes controll.

The reason i was on metformin was bc I have insulin resistant pcos.

i was put on Metformin by my RE but my perinatologist wanted me off of it at 12 weeks as well. I know some drs want u to stay on it for awhile bc of a higher chance of developing gest diabetes. I went for my glucose test and thankfully i passed!!!

I have PCOS & my OB had me stop it at around 10 weeks...
