Something that has been bothering me...

We went to a friends wedding last weekend and (my mom also went but did not stay over)....we stayed over at a hotel and the next day we see the happy couple as we are leaving. She goes into this whole thing about how cheap people were with gifts.

She was like I can't believe that anyone would give less than $250.00 for a wedding gift. Now my mother who is a single mom gave her $200 which I thought was generous and we gave $300. I just thought she was kind of talking directly about my mother and I almost said something but didn't. I just thought it was so obnoxious.

Wow. Thats messed up. I complained to my best friend but about the couple who gave us 50.00 and their son got married at the same place a year earlier so they knew how much it was. I think 200.00 is very NICE gift from one person!

I mean I think it was a nice gift...and plus the fact she and her husband gave us a cheap gift for our E-Party...so if she wants to talk about cheap

Re: Something that has been bothering me...

I talked to close people about some of the gifts. Like the couple who brought their uninvited adult son to the wedding and gave us $65...

But, I don't think she was talking about your mom. She was probably talking about gifts from couples, not singles.

But, I'd say I had few couples give $150 or less. But, I'd only EVER talk about it to CLOSE people...

Re: Something that has been bothering me...

thats just rude...a wedding is not a fund raiser for yourself and you should "expect" to make a certain amount. and i agree, $200 is more then enough from one person...where was the wedding?

I agree. Unless you are close with someone, I think $200 is more than enough.

That is so wrong. No one is responsible for trying to give them back what they spent on their wedding or the location.

Considering you exceeded her minimum gift requirement (read with dripping sarcasm), I am sure she was not speaking about your gift. It amazes me that people have such expectations and even worse expresses them to people.

That is completely tacky - and real low of her to go into detail about her wedding gifts with you less than 24 hours after her wedding.
It just shows what kind of a person she is, and that is TACKY as hell.

Re: Something that has been bothering me...

she complained about less than $250???? HA.....I had one cousin (who is married w/ 2 kids who were at my wedding) give me $160....yep.

Another gave $40...married w/kids

I can understand if you can't give anything, but seriously. I only said something to MY immediate family, and that was it.

And to complain about it....now that is TACKY.

I think it was rude that she went into what people gave her...I didn't ask what people gave...she volunteered the info.

I remember after my E-party she asked me to tell her what people gave us and I didn;t go into it...I just said that people were so overly generous and left it at that

Did she also ask you how big the stone in your E-ring is? Chat Icon

I personally think it is generally tacky to discuss the gifts you receive with people. I didn't invite people for the gifts. Also, I just can't imagine getting the worked up about it the morning after I got married! Geez!
