Someone stole my credit card info....
and has been on a shopping spree!!!!!!!!
My DH called the CC company the other day to check the rates. They said, "Oh...you must be calling about the the fraud suspicions."
DH: "Uh...what???"
CC company: "We called to alert you of suspicious activity on your card. There was a lot of activity in a short amount of time, whcih is unlike your normal activity (we always pay cash or debit for things)."
DH: "I never received that call"
Which is where I fall into play. I always hang up on people suspecting it's a courtesy call.
Anyway....this $#@#@$@ has spent over $1000 in 3 days. In FLORIDA! Best Buy; Game Stop; a restauraunt (Firehouse Subs); a gas station; a friggin Geneology Chart: and other random purchases.
Now I have some questions:
1. Without my ACTUAL card (they must have hacked into our computer somehow because we both have our cards- that are now cancelled)...how did they get gas? Don't you need to use an actual card and not just the #?
2. How can we find and prosecute this azzhorse? Does the CC company try to track him down? The police? Who do we call cause I want this guy's azz, BAD!!
I am so pizzed. What an invasion of privacy. I feel like we were robbed.

This happened to my DH. The thief changed our address with the cc company to have a card delievered to them directly.

Re: Someone stole my credit card info....
They can take your account # and put in another fake card. (real professionals) They usually sell the fake cards w/ active numbers
Dh says to report it so your local police and they will follow up. (DH is a cop)

Just happened to DH 2 months ago. Never found out who the desparate AZZwipe was. The CC co (Discover) said they cant force the companies to tell them who charged but the police, if they care enough) can.

Just report the fraudulent charges and close the account. The CC company will take it from there. We had this happen at work. No one had our CC either.

Actually...which I thought was awesome of the CC company...because the charges seemed "off", they denied payment on those charges.
However....they also denied payment on a charge I made at a Passions (sex toy) party! My DH goes...yeah...put that order through. It's legit.
We closed our account, and are currently waiting for our new cards.
Now we have to call the police.
Since the charges are being made in Florida, do we contact the Nassau county police or Florida?

that is kinda because you usually need the actual card to pay for gas...unless they knew the guy at the gas station and he just punched the #'s manually into the machine? generally what thieves do when they steal gas (or anything lese) is use your personal info to create new cards/accounts and then go on the shopping spree...

The CC guy told my husband the charges. The one we think was gas said "Pilot- Auto Services". Since the charges were in Florida, and we never heard of Pilot, my DH and the CC guy assumed it was gas. But maybe it could have been something like an oil change or a service.
But still...I am so
Next question....
Since we closed the account, please tell me there is no more damage this person can do to us....right?

It gets worse. They also changed the phone number so that when the cc called to verify suspicious charges, they called the theif! The only way we found out about this was because we got a letter in the mail telling us he got approved for the request to up his limit to 40 grand!! It was really bad.

Experian, Equifax, and Trans Union. Definately sign up with them. We have a 7 year fraud alert on all DH's things. These (fill in the blank) has his ss number, mother's maiden name, everything. Don't ask me how cause I don't know. That's the scariest part. Luckily we weren't responsible for the 40K this guy charged on his card.

Re: Someone stole my credit card info....
Ugh.. happened to my DH around xmas time.. someone hacked into his account changed the address to somewhere in CA bought a whole bunch of crap, which the cc company denied some of because it looked wierd.. then they went back in and changed all the info back so we wouldn't know.. but the cc co. called us and questioned it... it was all VERY weird!
you should call each credit agency and have them put a fraud alert on your account.. what will happen is that anytime someone uses your ss # to open an account or whatever they will call you first to make sure its ok... they do it for 90 days i think.

Re: Someone stole my credit card info....
OMG! Same thing happened to me today!
My cc company denied the charges. They were all suspicious online transactions. The damage wasn't too bad yet, only about $700. Still.. I'm scared to think they could easily steal a number like that!!! My card is locked up at home!
I hope it doesn't get worse for you and it's over now.
Radiolau, That's freaking scary!!
