Tonite I went to dinner with DH and one of his old friends. I have met her a few times and she was nice. So agter dinner i was holding DD to leave and she just goes up and kisses DD on the lips!!! I almost fell over. I just posted the other day about feeding DD with family and someone mentioned Herpes and now I am freaking out. That is what i was thinking about while I was eating off the spoons at the restaurant. Im paranoid now too. Then DD leaned in for a hug thats her new thing (@12mo) and wham another kiss on the lips. I wanted to say something but know it would have come out all wrong and ruined a perfectly good night.
I know I should have and I am mad at myself but why did she kiss me on the cheek and feel its ok to kiss my child on the lips? I dont even kiss her on the lips!
too bad you cant create a handbook and pass it out to everyone with the rules. Call it "My rules for MY baby, take it or leave it.

Eww. I probably wouldn't have known what to say in the moment, but I would be really annoyed too. I am also a little paranoid about herpes, but I think it's only dangerous for newborns.

I wouldn't worry too much about herpes, but I'll never understand why people think it's okay to kiss other people's kids on the lips. Just SO wrong. I hope you don't see this person too often! (and if you do, you have to say something)

I would be upset too. You barely know her its very inappropriate (IMO) for her to kiss your baby on the lips. People are soo strange sometimes!

Ugh! That would annoy me too. My BIL (DH's sister's husband) likes kissing my DD on the lips, and we can't stand it. We feel awkward addressing it with him, but we have tried redirecting him and her when we see it about to happen! He actually says, "lippy kissies!" and kisses her.

I wouldn't worry so much about a one time kiss. I would worry more if it was someone in the family who you know has herpes, I think it would be pretty unlikely for her to catch it from a quick peck or two. More likely if she was feeding her off her fork and kissing her frequently, especially during an outbreak. Didn't you just want to shove your hand in front of her mouth and be like.... NO!!!! not on the lips!!!!

Ugh this bothers me to no end. If someone does that to my DS, I say something to HIM, instead of THEM, hoping they'd get the hint and to avoid confrontation. Like "No, no we don't kiss on the lips... cheek only!" It usually works.
