Some days being a working mom is so hard!
I love my DDs daycare so much but some days it is so hard being a working mom. I just got a call from daycare that my DD has 100.6 fever so they may need me to come get her if it gets worse. I explained she had her shots yesterday so it may be from that so they are going to keep an eye on it and call me back. I am waiting to see what happens before I leave work but I just wanna go and cuddle her instead of being at work. Sigh.

Yup, it is not easy. I have the biggest amount of guilt every day having to leave them and come to work. It is 100 times worse when I have to leave them and they are sick.
I so want to quit my job but its just not possible.

Ugh, tell me about it. DH was just texting me a bunch of cute stuff DD was doing/saying and I'm sitting at my desk and just want to be with them.

Re: Some days being a working mom is so hard!
It really is! The doctor I work for likes to discuss things after hours, and yesterday caught me before I left. At 6:30 I said I have to run to pick up my son before the daycare closes at 7, and he kept talking to me as I was walking out the door. I ended up just saying have a good night, I've got to run. I drove 80-90 mph (yes, I know better, but I just got so upset and was nervous of not making it in time), and got there by 7:03. I was so upset that my little man was there for almost 10 & 1/2 hours yesterday! I HATE that I have to work and have him there.

Some days being a working mom is so hard!
I worked late last night so My kids were asleep before I got home. I got a call from the school nurse today that DS refuses to eat and is sick. He gets on the phone and tells me that he can't eat b/c he lisses me so much and can I pick him so we can snuggle and hand out before everyone else gets home.
Broke my heart. If I didn't have a meeting this afternoon I would've picked him up.

My DD is at home right now with my MIL and has a 100 fever and what seems to be a stomach virus. I agree, all I want to do is go home and spend the day snuggling with her, yet I'm stuck here at work. What's worse is I don't even get home tonight until 9pm

OMG I would have quit on the spot if I had a telephone call like that.
They are only this small once and they need us NOW - not when they are older and independent. I hate how expensive it is to make a comfortable living in NY!!!! I just want to make enough where I can stay home and raise MY kids and we aren't pinching pennies to save and get by.

Some days being a working mom is so hard!
I had a patient actually ask me where my son was being cared for and she got choked up when I said daycare. She said "sorry, that just breaks my heart when I hear that".... this was my FIRST week back to work, and like seriously, like I'm not broken hearted enough about it already!

I could not agree more. It's one thing if you WANT to work, love what you do, etc...But, when you HAVE to work, it just sucks b@lls. When DD was first born, I wanted to go back to work, but now a couple of years later, I just want to be with her. And I can't.

Yes, it's SO hard, especially when they are so little and they're sick. It's really heartbreaking.
DD is almost 19 mos and has been so sick on and off since October. I'm so lucky that work is flexible and I can work from home when I need to, which has been quite a bit these last few months. I've taken time off too, had to cancel a two week work trip after DD was hospitalized back in the Fall. We just have to get through, day by day.

Some days being a working mom is so hard!
some days? Every day.
I crawl in my house from work around 7pm if I'm lucky.. she's out cold by 830 but instead of cuddles its why wasn't homework done, review words, bath, dinner and UGH!
I got the 'look' from my hubby when I promised to leave at 5pm but work got crazy and I didn't leave until 630 and got home super late.
Still wouldn't give it up.
Right now in my mind's eye.. that look on her face when she caught snow on her tongue in Brooklyn.. made a snow angel in Central park, saw the space show in the Rose Space Center, her face at the dinosaurs in AMNH ..
Her awe at seeing all the lights on Times Square out her hotel window (I had a corner wrap around room so she had more views)
I work hard so we can play hard. She knows it. Already "Whats our next trip" LOL Mackinac Island kiddo.. just gotta start planning it.
All that and I can't IMAGINE staying home with her. I'd die. Even when she was a baby. I'm just not built for that. I am home when she's sick but even then we trade off so he has to do it too. Don't make me stay at home with her day in and day out just because. Even our weekends are filled up and out and about. I can't sit at home with her. Drives me batty. But I am fiercely protective and love her to pieces. So we take her everywhere, show her everything do tons of stuff. Kid is spoiled. I want her to see everything experience it all... and my job gives me that ability.
Hang in there!

Yes it does suck. Once I get to work I'm okay and just focus on work. And when I am home I am home. But the weeks he's sick it's rough. I'm lucky my husband's job is flexible and he can stay home when necessary. The worst recently has been with the weather trying to make it back in time. I work at school and can never leave early.

It just sucks. 22 months later and I hate leaving just as much as I did when she was 12 weeks old. I remind myself daily that if I didn't work I wouldn't be able to do the things I want to with her. Now when I say I'll miss you DD says 'I miss you too mommy'. I just try to maximize the 4 or 5 hours I get with her a day and make the most of the weekend. I feel your pain ladies!!

YES- it's breaks my heart and I am trying to so hard to keep it together. I made a really good living and we are almost back financially as we took a big hit after Sandy. Insurance didn't cover the loss completely and we used our entire savings. My job allows me to build back up our savings and go on vacation and live in a nice house.
That all said, it still breaks my heart. So I had DH pick him up. I know he wanted me and as soon as my meeting is over I will leave. I just want him to know that one of us will always be there.

Re: Some days being a working mom is so hard!
I hear ya! If I didn't HAVE to work for our livelihood, I would be home in a heartbeat. DS woke me up yesterday morning throwing up. He didn't have a fever and seemed fine once he got it out of his system (I suspect he actually ate something he wasn't supposed to put in his mouth). Between snow days and sick days I just couldn't take another day off unless I absolutely HAD to...so I sent him to school. Thankfully he was perfectly fine but it broke my heart not be able to just take the day off and cuddle with him on the couch all day.
Between DH and I, we both work so many hours that when I look back I think DS spent more time in daycare than he did with us

Yea, they start to understand. My DS is 4 and he asks me every morning if I will get home when it is still sunny out or when it is dark. When I tell him 'dark out' he gets all sad and says 'I really wish you could come home when its sunny out, so I can be with you more'.
Or when he tells me that he wishes I could pick him up from school all the time like the other mommies. Out of the 20 moms in his class I am 1 out 4 who work FT, the rest stay home. Kills me when we can't do play dates over vacations like last week because I was working.

Seriously? That is unbelievably insensitive that someone would make such an idiotic comment like that. And to get choked up about it? I hope you threw a box of tissues at her head.
Does is suck sometimes to work and not be there for every ailment, boo boo, mommy and me class, etc? YES! It absolutely does! But you know what doesn't suck? My family's quality of life. My son would not live the life that he does if I was a SAHM because we couldn't afford it.
There are few things that REALLY piss me off, but pitying me or my kid because I work is definitely one of them. I don't pity either one of us. We are both happy, well adjusted people and have a better life because I work. And I'm proud of that.

Some days being a working mom is so hard!
I work full time too so I understand.
However on the other side of the coin, I grew up and both my parents worked in nyc full time. My mom actually had a really high powered corporate job and traveled literally across the country and often. I had someone who took care of me and my sibling (she is awesome). When we were teenagers wnd on my mom was always saying she felt so guilty leaving us but her salary provided us with vacations and college saving. My sibling and I were just like you did? We didn't care! We were taken care of well and both grew up to be really independent and normal. So when she tells me stories of how she used to wake me at 615am to make her train I don't remember any of that. Just that I was loved and taken care of. Also she would always take the Christmas week off and we'd see the Christmas show in nyc. Or the random day here or there. Those are the things I remember.
So all of our kids will grow up and this is their normal. As long as they're loved and cared for they'll turn out great and one day when they're older like us or are parents they'll see what we sacrificed so they could have a better life!

SO TRUE!
My Dad wasn't high powered or corporate. Just a sailor
But he was out 10m a year. He said it was so hard on him. But were loved and as you guys all know I was very very close to my father. I never felt we missed something or had less because he wasn't home when I was still in diapers or in grade school.

It really sucks. After this baby is born I may just be a SAHM. DH wants me to stay home instead of having 2 under 2 in day care.
