solids at 5 months??
who is feeding their DC "solids" at 5 months? and is it just cereal or are you doing baby food too?
I started DD#2 on rice cereal at 5 months, and our Pediatrician said if she tolerates it well, then start on the orange foods. so we started on carrotts. Wtih DD#1, we did oatmeal for the first month and then transitioned into baby food at 6 mos...we had a different pediatrician then, so just wondering what everyone else was doing.

Re: solids at 5 months??
LOL! I started my son on solids at like three months He was a bottomless pit and maxed out on formula, he hit 40 oz during a twelve hour period. I mean, from 7am to 7pm he was sucking down 40 oz of formula!!! It was NUTS. Then, that wasn't enough!
The same thing happened with my brother - my mom's like you have to start him on cereal. So, I would mix the cereal in with the formula and that helped with the insatiable hunger.
Then, at around four months, I started to do the Stage One Earth's Best Organic Baby Food. I began with apples. I did each new one for four or five days just to make sure there was no allergic reaction. Then bananas and then sweet potatoes and on and on. He loved it so much he would cry in between spoonfuls for more.
I know it's not standard to have to feed a baby that much and that soon but my son needed it and once I gave it to him, he was finally content and felt satisfied so I knew I had done the right thing. I figured, my mom did it with my brother and he turned out OK

Re: solids at 5 months??
we started at 5 months too first was cereal for a week and when he was good at eating it and wanting more we added in another meal. We did fruits/veggies in 3 day intervals. We also started with orange veggies so it was 3 days of carrots, 3 days of squash, 3 days of sweet potato, etc.

Cereal at 5 months -- two weeks later we started stage 1 foods. I think it just depends on if they are ready. You will know.

Re: solids at 5 months??
My ped said we could start with orange food. We skipped the cereals and started with carrots at 4.5 months.

Re: solids at 5 months??
At 4 months I started my DD on cereal, three days later started with all Stage 1 foods in no particular order, it really doesn't matter what you give first. Then I went right to Stage 2 foods, skipped Stage 3 (she thought they were disgusting and wouldn't eat them) and by 6 months she was eating all kinds of table food. (pancakes, scrambled eggs, pasta, meatballs, cheese, yogurt, melon, banana, etc)
With DS we tried around 4 months but he wasn't interested, he's always had a MUCH smaller appetite than my DD. We waited and tried again around 5-6 months and then he was ready and we did the same thing with him as with DD.
