Sod Questions

Where did you buy your sod? Did you install yourself? Did you hire someone, if yes who (and price if you don't mind)? Is Fall a good time of year to lay sod or should we just wait until the Spring? We still don't have grass in our backyard and really don't use our yard because of it. Any help would be great. Thank you! Chat Icon

Re: Sod Questions

We got our sod at the the place on Pinelawn between the LIE and 110. Schmitt's maybe?

The number is 351-TURF. (631) it was much less than even Home Depot had it for. DH put it in himself. But in true DH fashion it took 9 years longer than he thought. That could be because of his many "breaks" he needed.

I would wait until the fall to put it down because it really needs to soak up as much moisture as necessary and with this blazing sun I don't think it can.

Re: Sod Questions

We had Sod installed in my backyard in June.

They leveled the backyard and put top soil down, then sod.

I have a 60x90 backyard, it cost $2,500.
We had a few places quote us, that was the average price.

We used Long Island Landscape Designs. Highly recommend for any landscape work.

There are pics in my backyard album.

The important thing is that it gets enough water to root into the soil.
I would think you could do it now, Just need to make sure it is watered everyday. It takes about 3-4 weeks for it to root into the soil.

Re: Sod Questions

We had a section of our yard resodded last year. Sod from Delea in East Northport and they recommended one of their workers - Justin.

We did 1000 sq feet for around $800. I think we paid 200-300 for the sod out of that.

Re: Sod Questions

My DH is a landscaper and we are sodding our whole front yard. He is waiting until the fall to put it down. Fall is a good time to put it down, and remember it needs to be soaked 2 times a day so that it will get a good root before the winter.
