So, we are trying to decide between two houses...

One is in Oakdale/Bohemia off Oakdale Bohemia Road.. The school district is Connectquot, elementary is Edward Bostic.

Second house is in Islip Terrace (North Great River) on Jamie Street. School District is East Islip..

Which would be the better house based on location/school district.

If anyone can help, I would so appreciate it! :)

I'd go for the North Great River....I'm a teacher and I actually work in one of those districts and tutor a student from the other! Based on what I see from working in the one district and tutoring in the other, I'd go for the North Great River house.

My son is a graduate of Connetqout, we lived in Oakdale for many years.
I am not impressed at all with the district, by the time my son graduated I felt the whole district had really slipped. Also there is a HUGE heroin problem in oakdale/bohemia/sayville. I'm not sure if East Islip has the same problem.

ETA-I really liked living in Oakdale though, its very easy to get on the highway. The neighborhood you're looking at is nice.

I grew up in Oakdale. I think Connetquot is a great school and people seek it out. I would still live there if I could have afforded it when we bought our home. Sooooo many of the people I grew up with have chosen to raise their families there. I have a ton of friends kids that go to Connetquot and all my nieces too. I do not know one person that is unhappy. And not to debate the above poster, but herion is a huge growing problem on LONG ISLAND in general. I do not believe it is specific to Oakdale. My entire family lives there still and have never heard this. I have read alot in the papers about this issue and have never seen Connetquot singled out, but have seen others school/areas. I would move back there yesterday if I could.
East Islip is an awesome school as well and would send my kids there in a second. I know the area pretty well and would say this to you. Islip Terrace is totally fine, but if given the choice within the district, I would choose to live in Great River or East Islip over Islip Terrace. It is just a little nicer with a bit better resale value.

THanks ladies. Well, that is what is confusing. Because on MLSLI the address is Islip Terrace and even with the Post Office. But if I google the block, it comes up with a North Great River address for town? I was very confused.. It is on Jamie Street off Rockaway St/Helene St. before Montauk Ave. At least that is what the map on MLSLI says it is.. So, is it IT or Great River does anyone know? I grew up in East Islip.

Islip Terrace and North Great River are the same thing, IMO. No difference. Both are North of Sunrise. Nothing wrong that, just saying.

Had no issues with the school district when I attended. Every school has their issues when it comes to drugs. EI has a strong sports program.

ETA: I know the block. My seamstress lives off of Rockaway. Islip Terrace.
Great River and East Islip is south of Sunrise. I never heard anyone say they were from North Great River. If they were, they most likely just said Islip Terrace.

North great river and Islip Terrace are the same thing..N Great River is not really a town your address won't be n Great River NY..Im from that area and no one has ever said I'm from N Great River..its just Islip terrace and yes its close to CI but not close enough that I wouldn't buy a house over there..I don't think you could go wrong with either school districts they are both good..I would base my decision on which house I liked better.
