So Upset
I am devastated. My ovarian reserve test came back and showed a FSH of 10. I am only 30 so I guess its bad. Dr.B said that my test was unique because one of the numbers were excellent but then that FSH number brought me down to a good rating from excellent. I haven't stopped crying in 2 days..Anyone have any advice or success stories they can share. I am just in shock. He still said we should move forward with medicated IUI cycles..

Re: So Upset
i do not have much experience, but if dr B wants to proceed with IUIs ( not even IVF), he must have a plan. Also i know that low stim protocol works for people with poor reserve.
also, dr Davis at Cornel specializes in women with high FSH. maybe you can go for a consult?

Re: So Upset
I'm sorry. I'm not familiar with FHS, but if Dr. B still thinks IUI will work than I'd trust him. Good luck!

Re: So Upset
I know that you are upset, but an FSH of a 10 is barely elevated. It is of some concern because of your age, but age will usually trump FSH. Did you have an AMH test done to check your ovarian reserve? This combined with your FSH number will give you a clearer picture of what is going on. Also...most agree that having an high FSH in and of itself has nothing to do with quality...just perhaps quantity..but again...yours is barely elevated. You need to watch it of course because of your age and it is good that you are already seeking fertility treatment. People get pregnant all the time with FSH numbers higher than yours ...especially at your age. Also..high FSH does not necessarily mean low reserve although the two often go hand in hand. Maybe that is what Dr. B meant by the two different results of your testing..maybe he tested your AMH and you had good ovarian reserve. I just got pregnant at 44 with an FSH of 18.2..so..trust me...you have options!!
You can also go to the following website for those with high FSH:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/209394/
When you get there...click on the link at the top of the board to the "New Pregnant Despite High FSH" board and check out some of the threads with ladies detailing their FSH numbers and pregnancies. You will be okay

Re: So Upset
The test I had done was an OAR test. He said that something was excellent but that my FSH was elevated at a 10. I have tried to do research but I have found really scary stuff .
The day they did the testing was CD5 late in the day so I was praying maybe that was affecting it although I have no idea.
He said something like this doesn't change that I will get pregnant, just the amount of time it might take..14 months, mc's, and counting ...
I am just so nervous, I already jumped the gun and starting freaking out....Did you get pregnant IUI or IVF? I am so happy for you, love success stories!

Re: So Upset
I don't have experience but really if you are very upset over this you should also express it to Dr.B and he will make you feel so much better! Tell him how nervous you are about the outcome of the test and ask him what you can reasonably expect as far as possible protocols.. timing.. etc! I always found him very comforting!!

Re: So Upset
I had an FSH of 9.8. I responded really well to gonal-f and got pregnant on the first round with an IUI.
Good luck!

Well...of course your FSH is going to be higher on CD 5 than CD 2 or 3!! An FSH reading of a 10 on CD 5 is not that bad...really. The OAR test huh? Never heard of that one...am going to have o look that one up. I think you should take what Dr. B said to heart..he said that your results do not change the fact that you can get pregnant. Go with that and think positively!!
Yes...I did IVF. I did not have success with IUI but at my age...that was expected. Go ahead and do the IUI and see how you respond. Even if it's not the response that you hope for, so many so-called "poor responders" go on to get pregnant. You just might be surprised
All the best to you!!

Re: So Upset
Don't be upset! A few things (some of these have been said by PP but I think they bear repeating):
1. 10 is not that high for FSH.
2. You have age on your side.
3. FSH is typically tested on CD 2, 3, or 4, so I would think a CD 5 FSH test would be artificially high (although I'm no RE, so ask your Dr. about this).
4. Many, many people have gotten PG with higher FSH and older than you. Google "High FSH Success Stories" and I think you will feel a lot better.

Re: So Upset
10 is not high!
I did IVF bc i needed to do PGD. My FSH was 10 and i am 30. i got pregnant on the first try with twins and they are now napping upstairs and are almost 5 months old
i responded really well to Follistim - ER i had 30 eggs, but only 11 fertilized. i got my two boys from that cycle and i sitll have two frosties.
you're going to be ok, i promise. i freaked out when my FSH came back at a 10 but my RE barely considered that elevated. he said the best thing i have going for me is my age.
best of luck to you!!

Re: So Upset
I'm not familiar with FSH levels, but I agree that you should talk to Dr. B more about your concerns. That's what he's there for!
