So tell me about the 3 hour glucose test please

Crap!! I know I have to schedule it early in the morning any other tidbits I need to know TIA!

fast the night before (only water), and no drinking during the 3 hour test. bring a bottle of water and a small snack with you for when the test is over. it's the same as the 1 h but the drink is twice as sweet and they take blood 4X (time=0, 1h, 2h, and 3h)

Go a few days before and ask if they have a small room you can hang out in during the test - then bring reading material or a portable DVD player and some pillows. The DVD player made all the difference to me....

They also take urine before the test and whenever they take blood.

I am so annoyed to have to do this again, last time DH was with me so it was easy, this time Im solo at 7am friday.
I wish we were closer to one another so we can do it together

I had it....

Do it early.. Fasting isn't so bad if you're asleep

Bring a portable DVD or book or something.. just to burn the time..

I had to pee and then give a vial of blood prior to drinking the orange drink..

Then its up to YOU to really pay attention to the time and make SURE they see you at that exact one hour time

You have to pee and get poked at each of the three hour checks ins. (so with the base test, four tinkles, four needles)

Know a place close by to get your lunch, its worth it.

I took hubby with me to help eat up the time.. he's such a trooper, even fasted with me.

i was not allowed to have water or food from the night before until the test. The girl at the lab said the water can dilute the results. They let me have a sip or two an hour after drinking the sugar.

It wasnt that bad. They warn you, that since you are on an empty stomach and you are drinking pure sugar (its more sugar than the 1 hour) , you may have some side effects, like dizziness or vomiting, but I didnt have any. I was fine.

Its just really boring to sit there, bring some reading material

I didnt have to pee for them at all. they just took blood- right before I drank the drink and then 3 times after that at every hour. I remember I was done by 10-1030 going in at 7 am. going to kill my day off!
I am going to ask for the lemon lime.
the orange and fruit punch make me gag bigtime.
Im going to pull my hair out- 3 hours is way too long for me, I have 0 patience for this.
I may bring my portable dvd player not sure yet.

It went faster than I expected. As the other ladies said, fast before and bring a book or materials to entertain you. Having an appt first thing is best. Don't worry, it will be over and done with before you know it!
