So I'm normal! But not.

I just got a phone call back about all my prenatal testing from the RE. Everything was textbook normal. Glucose, insulin, hormones, everything.

So... why do I only get AF every 50-80 days? And why haven't I ovulated once since coming off the Pill in February? Don't get me wrong, I'm not unhappy that I'm healthy. But how is it possible that NOTHING is wrong, when I'm not ovulating and only getting AF every 2-3 months?

This is so frustrating. If they can't find it, they can't help me.

This was the specialist!

I'm going in for an appointment next week to talk to someone some more. At my last appointment, the specialist (RE) told me that I have PCOS and outlined all we would do to treat it. Now the bloodwork is saying I'm negative for all PCOS factors. All except one - the irregular periods and not ovulating. Can they treat me for PCOS even with my bloodwork negative? What would they even treat FOR in that case?

I had the same issue. I was first diagnosed with PCOS and placed on Metformin. Later on I went for bloodwork and the PCOS was gone. I am now on Clomid which helps promote ovulation. I am not sure if this helps at all but it can be option to help you ovulate.

Thanks for the info, Rosa. Do they still say you have PCOS even though your blood is normal? All my life, my periods have been about 2-3 months apart. Was that the case for you? Can anything besides PCOS cause that?

The RE told me before the blood tests that she would be putting me on Metformin (she was so sure I have PCOS). Now, they're not. I don't know what they're planning for me. I spoke to a nurse on the phone. She told me that "a doctor" (not necessarily mine) would "probably" be around when I came in for CD3 testing later this week or next.

I have polycystic ovaries but not PCOS. It may be due to an increased prolactin level that I have or may be a separate issue. You don't have to have the syndrome to have PCO, which would effect ovulation. My glucose levels and everything were always normal as well. You would be considered to have annovulation and would be treated with medicines that bring on ovulation such as Clomid or injectibles. Metaform would only help if you had a glucose issue that was causing your ovaries to be polycystic. Hope that makes sense and best of luck!Chat Icon

My fasting glucose was 81, which is super-normal. My insulin was also normal (they said "under 2"?) I definitely have anovulation - my OPK's are positive pretty much all the time, and I temp and never have a sustained increase in temperatures.

So they won't write me off and tell me to try on my own and come back in a year? That's my fear. I've been the same since I'm 12 years old - a year won't change anything!

I don't know! The nurse only told me about my glucose and insulin. oh, and she said my cholesterol is a little too high. I just stopped being a vegetarian last year and think I love the red meat a little too much... oops...

If you are being seen by a RE, they absolutely shoud not turn you away from treatment!!! The good news is, with treatment, you have a great chance of getting pregnant!

I suggest you specifically ask about TSH. It might be within norm, but too high fot TTC at the same time. It is causing annov, but easily fixable. Why don't you ask for a copy of your blood tests faxed/e-mailed to you?

I would talk to your dr. about going on Clomid. I have heard from a lot of friends that it did wonders for helping them ovulate/get pregnant. I know how frustrating it can be. Sometimes I think that I could do a better job with diagnosing myself than those people we call doctors. Chat Icon Hang in there!

Re: So I'm normal! But not.

actually, if you truly have PCOS, clomid has lower rates of success. I think you need to get a diagnosis first.

Yes, my periods would be aout 2-3 months apart. I am not on Metofrmin, because after follow up blood work, they said my levels were too low to be diagnosed with PCOS. Instead my doctor thought my problem was Anovoulatory. I don't ovulate every month. So I am now on Clomid which helped regulate my cycle immediately, after my first cycle my ycle was 31 days and has been the same for the past 3 months.

I went to my 1st RE appointment yesterday and had an internal ultrasound done. My RE said everything looked normal, I had a 29mm follicle, which he said is because of the Clomid and that I should be ovulating tomorrow/Friday. I had blood work done too, and now I am just waiting for the results.
